Jane Austen Meets the Bachelorette

Meet the Harcourts of Alexandria, Virginia. A respectable middle class, middle-aged, mixed-race couple, Harold and Forsythia have four eminently marriageable daughters...or so their mother believes. Forsythia grew up in the British colony of Jamaica, and still longs for the glory days of the Empire. She teaches etiquette classes in the living room of her Tudor home (of course), and named all four of her daughters after Windsor royals in the hopes that one day they would find their true prince.

But princes are far from the mind of Bliss, who in the aftermath of a messy divorce, has moved back into Forsythia and Harold's home with her young daughter, Bella. Much to the chagrin of her mother, the only men she's interested in are the ones in history books, and she's thrown herself into earning her PhD and trying to stem the tide of Bella's Disney princess obsession.

But all that changes when a new reality TV show - “The Virgin” - comes to town, and Bliss' younger sister, Diana, is swiftly selected as the star. Over the course of the season, seventeen suitors are narrowed down to three “knights”, each of whom undergo chivalric trials (based on medieval contests) to prove their worthiness. Though Forsythia and Diana are in heaven, Bliss and the others have their reservations and swear to stay far away from the circus-like atmosphere that's taken over their home. But soon, Bliss can't help but be drawn into the drama, forcing her to rethink everything she thought she knew about love, her family - and herself.
