Lotus grows into a pond but the pond water never moistens the lotusflower. The dew drop falls on the lotus and slips into the pond
plup.[Sutra 1]
Suffering Follows the Evil-Doer
Mind precedes all knowable. Indeed mind is the chief architect of all this.Mind-made are they. If with a corrupted mind one should either speak or act
dukkha or sorrow follows caused by that, as does the wheel follows the ox
All that you experience begins with thought. Your words and deeds springfrom thought. If we speak or act with evil thoughts, unpleasantcircumstances and experiences inevitably result. Wherever we go, we createbad circumstances because we carry bad thoughts. This is very much likethe wheel of a cart following the hoofs of the ox yoked to the cart. The cart-wheel, along with the heavy load of the cart, keeps following the draughtoxen. The animal is bound to this heavy load and cannot leave it.
[Sutra 2]
Happiness Follows the Doer of Good
Mind precedes all knowable. Indeed mind is the chief architect of this all.Mind-made are they. If with a clear and confident mind one should speakand act as one
s shadow never departing.
All that man experiences springs out of his thoughts. If his thoughts aregood, the words and the deeds will also be good. The result of goodthoughts, words and deeds will be happiness. This happiness will never leavethe person whose thoughts are good. Happiness will always follow him likehis shadow that never leaves him
[Sutra 3]
Uncontrolled Hatred Leads to Harm
Who bears within them enmity - He has abused and beaten me, defeated meand plundered me hate is not allayed for them.
When a person holds that he was insulted, assaulted, defeated, or robbed, his anger continues unabated. The anger in such a person has no way of subsiding. The more he goes over his imaginary trouble the greater becomeshis desire to avenge it.
[Sutra 4]
Overcoming Anger
Who bears within no enmity: that he has abused and beaten me, defeatedme and plundered me, hate is quite allayed for them.
Living in human society, people often quarrel with one another. When suchconflicts occur, people often keep thinking about the wrongs done to themby others. When that happens, their anger tends to grow. But in those whoforgive and forget the wrongs done to them, anger quickly vanishes. Theyare then at peace. If you have evil thoughts and you know they are evil quickly dwell on a goodthought. Keep trying to think good thoughts. Also think of the consequencesof the bad thoughts if they do not go away.
