ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:
The Curve oense did a great job o battling back to take a late lead on Frida night onl tohave it slip awa as Richmond scored nine unanswered across the eighth and ninth innings to take a 157 win in thesecond game o the ourgame series.
Adalberto Santos
went 4or5 with 4 RBI on Frida night to help lead theCurve oense as it was his twoRBI single in the sixth that put the Curve in ront at, 76.
Tony Sanchez
also chippedin with a pair o hits and RBI while
Quincy Latimore
also had two hits. Up 76 entering the eighth, Richmond battedaround against
Zach Foster
(01), who was making his DoubleA debut, and
Matt McSwain
as the scored six runsin the inning. The Squirrels tacked on three more in the ninth or the 157 nal. Altoona starter
Aaron Pribanic
hada tough outing, going 2.2 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits. The 22 hit allowed on Frida night set a newranchise record, surpassing the previous total o 20, which occurred on ve dierent occasions. The last time Altoonaallowed 20 hits was on June 15, 2011 to New Britain in Curve, Pa. The 15 runs allowed were also a season high or theCurve pitching sta.
CURVE/RICHMOND SERIES:
Meeting or the second time in a week, the Curve will be looking to avenge a series lossto the Fling Squirrels at The Diamond in Richmond rom April 1922. This season, these two clubs will see each othera total o 21 times with 14 o those meetings coming in Altoona. The Curve lead the alltime series between the two2623. That mark includes a 159 record at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
FOR ALTOONA:
Southpaw
Aaron Poreda
will tr to lead the Curve back to the win column tonight vs. Richmond ashe’ll ace the Fling Squirrels or the rst time in his career. In his last start, Poreda turned in qualit numbers againstHarrisburg on April 16th with six innings o tworun ball with six strikeouts. In 11 innings this ear, Poreda has allowedeight hits and anned eight while surrendering just two earned runs. This season is Poreda’s rst real return to startingsince 2009 as he was used primaril as a reliever with the Portland Beavers in 2010 and the Tucson Padres in 2011.
For more on Poreda, see page two.
FOR RICHMOND:
 The Squirrels send RHP
Craig Westcott
to the mound to ace the Curve or the rst time this seasonand the third overall time in his career. It’s been awhile since the Curve have aced Westcott as the right hander madetwo starts at then Blair Count Ballpark back in 2010 ater earning a midseason promotion rom HighA San Jose.Westcott gave up ve runs on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched back on Jul 12, 2010 but then improved to allow just tworuns on ve hits on August 26, 2010. Despite the act that the right hander reached DoubleA in 2010 and made 13starts, he spent all o 2011 with San Jose where he was 134 with a 3.42 ERA in 25 games (24 starts). He’s back at theDoubleA level and was hit hard two starts ago in Bowie (5.1 IP, 13 H, 6 R) beore turning in a qualit start last timeout against Reading (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 5 K). Westcott, 26, was selected in the 30th round o the 2009 drat out o Belhaven (Miss.) College.
CHANGE IN PLANS: A.J. Burnett
, who was scheduled to pitch tonight’s game vs. Richmond on a rehabilitation assignment, will instead start or Pittsburgh vs. the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. Tonight’s scheduled starter or thePirates, Kevin Correia, is experiencing discomort in his let side and will not make the start tonight.
HE’S HEATING UP...:
Catcher
Tony Sanchez
has been making loud contact at the plate as o late and its starting toshow in the stat sheet, with his average rising to its current spot at .282. Sanchez has successull hit in our o his lastve games and three o those have been multihit games. Last night, the Miami, Fla. native went 2or5 and drove in apair o runs.
HE’S ON FIRE...:
Outelder
Adalberto Santos
is locked in at the plate right now, going 7or9 over his last two games, including a ourhit eort here last night. Santos through his rst nine games plaed is batting .464 (13or28) withthree doubles (two last night) and our RBI (all rom Frida night’s game). Santos spent all o 2011 with the BradentonMarauders and batted .314 with 22 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs and 49 RBI in 105 games.
TOUGH GLOVE:
The Curve’s earlseason deensive struggles reared their heads again on Frida night versus Richmond as the club committed our errors, ting a season high. With the our errors on Frida night, Altoona now has atotal o 22 errors, which is tied or secondmost in the league with Portland. Both the Curve and the Sea Dogs trail theNew Hampshire Fisher Cats, who have made 23 miscues in the led in their rst 15 games.
HOME IMPROVEMENT:
Altoona had stranded 44 batters over their last sixgames in 54 innings at the dish and hit .130 (7or54) with RISP in those sixgames heading into Frida night’s game with Richmond. Despite the loss onFrida, the club showed great improvement with men on the bases, going6or14 (.429) and onl stranding seven. The club has scored 30 runs in seven home contests or an average o 4.3 runs per game, which is two ull runshigher than their run average on the road o (2.3, 16 runs in seven games).
QUALITY:
RHP
Brandon Cumpton
turned in another qualit start on Thursda night in the deeat o the Squirrels at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Over hislast two starts (both qualit starts), Cumpton is a combined 11 with a 2.08ERA (3 ER in 13.0 IP) to go along with seven strikeouts and two walks.
HOME COOKING:
With their 10 hits on Frida night, the Curve are now batting .271 in the connes o Peoples Natural Gas Field through seven games. In their seven games on the most recent road trip, the Curve batted .224.
