Christmas 2008 Year 2, Volume 1What’s happening with Kelly, Heather, Kodi and Dexter McGugan?“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, becausehe will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

SEPTEMBER
Nashville,

TN

So

this

is

our

yearly

update

on

the

happenings

of

our

family.

Since

we

don’t

get

to

see

and

speak

with

everyone

as

often

as

we’d

like,

we

want

to

tell

a

 bit

about

the

year

that

was.

We

want

to

explain

about

what

we’re

doing,

what

we’ve

done,

what

God

is

doing

with

us,

and

maybe

where

we

want

to

 be.

It’s

sort

of

a

yearly

synopsis

of

our

 journey

of

marriage.

For

those

that

received

our

first

volume

of

the

 McGugan

 Mailer
 ,

you

might

notice

this

time

we

have

an

addition

to

the

list

of

McGugan’s

under

the

title.

That’s

right!

We

have

added

a

member

to

our

family.

Like

we

thought

might

happen

in

the

“What’s

Next?”

topic

last

year,

we

have

added

a

puppy

to

the

McGugan

 bunch.

In

May,

Kelly

surprised

me

with

a

precious

gift,

and

Dexter

(aka.

Dex,

Dexter

Doo,

Sir

Licks

a

Lot,

etc)

 became

part

of

the

family.

My

middle

sis,

Robin

called

to

inform

me

that

she

had

a

friend

who

had

saved

a

group

of

husky

puppies.

The

question

was:

do

you

want

one?

Robin

planned

on

taking

a

puppy

also.

Of

course,

I

chomped

at

the

 bit

and

immediately

went

to

“working

on”

Kelly

about

the

topic.

Kelly

acted

very

hesitantly

about

it,

reminding

me

of

all

the

things

a

new

puppy

would

mean,

how

I’d

have

to

take

care

of

it,

and

then

asked

me

to

research

the

 breed

to

make

sure

I

knew

everything

I

was

getting

myself

into.

This

process

took

some

delay;

he

even

had

me

call

the

vet

to

ask

about

costs.

Slowly

I

felt

as

if

I

was

making

some

headway,

maybe

I

was

going

to

get

a

puppy,

and

Kelly

told

me

to

call

Robin,

see

what

puppies

were

left

and

we’d

choose

from

those.

So

excited,

I

called

Robin…

only

to

find

out

that

all

of

the

puppies

had

 been

claimed

already.

What

my

devious

sister

and

husband

did

not

mention

for

awhile

was

that

one

of

those

puppies

was

already

claimed

 by

KELLY!

So,

during

Robin’s

graduation

weekend

down

in

Starkville,

MS,

I

met

Dexter

for

the

first

time.

Love

at

first

sight.

Could

you

have

denied

him?

Since

we

 brought

Dexter

to

our

home,

life

as

we

knew

it

in

the

McGugan

house

is

gone.

Kodi

had

to

learn

to

 be

a

 big

 brother,

I

had

to

learn

how

to

take

care

of

a

puppy,

and

Kelly

has

shared

his

dog

wisdom

all

along

the

way.

Overall,

I

can’t

imagine

our

family

without

him,

and

we

have

enjoyed

all

the

laughs,

“aww”

moments,

and

even

the

frustrations.

Welcome

“Dex”

to

the

family!

Ps.

No

more

sleeping

in

for

me.
Heather

You

might

remember

a

discussion

about

desiring

a

flat

screen,

HDTV

last

year…

Kelly

finally

got

it!

That’s

right

ladies

and

gentlemen,

 just

in

time

for

the

2008

Super

Bowl,

we

had

a

50
inch

Samsung

Plasma

TV

delivered

to

our

home.

For

those

that

don’t

know,

the

#1

thing

on

“The

Top

10

Things

We

Learned

This

Year”

last

year,

was

“Buy

a

 big

screen

TV

 before

marriage”.

Apparently

someone

felt

sorry

for

him.

That

someone…the

mother
in
law!

That’s

right;

Cindy

Wilson

got

the

 ball

rolling

when

she

presented

Kelly

with

his

32
nd

 birthday

DEXTER

McGUGANThe

very

first

day

we

met.

I

knew

he

was

mine

forever!

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call himImmanuel’ – which means, ‘God with us.’” Matthew 1:23

present.

When

he

opened

the

gift,

it

was

a

shiny

silver

pig.

This

wasn’t

any

ordinary

pig

though.

This

pig

was

a

piggy

 bank

and

had

the

words

“Kelly’s

TV

Fund”

written

on

it.

Along

with

the

piggy

 bank

was

some

starter

cash

to

get

the

 ball

rolling.

(Actually

Kelly

had

already

 been

saving

some

money

for

it

and

doing

the

research,

 but

that’s

not

a

story

you

can

tell

your

children

now

is

it).

After

saving

for

four

or

five

months

and

spending

countless

hours

of

research

on

DLP,

LCD,

and

Plasma

TV’s,

Kelly

finally

came

to

Heather

saying

he

was

ready.

So

Heather

took

the

money,

along

with

all

the

coins

she

rolled

for

him,

to

the

 bank

(looking

like

a

drug

dealer)

to

deposit

and

 by

the

next

week,

a

TV

was

purchased.

One

of

the

 best

moments

of

a

guys

life

is

getting

married

to

the

woman

he

loves…

a

close

second

is

the

day

he

gets

his

 big

screen

TV

and

his

wife

looks

at

you

and

says,

“It’s

 big

honey!”

“Yes

it

is

 baby.

Yes.

It

Is…”
Kelly

In

 January,

the

normal

routine

we

had

come

to

know

was

dramatically

tweaked.

Kelly

was

laid

off

from

his

position

at

TSI

due

to

the

economy

and

he

was

the

most

recent

employee

hired

(1.5+

years).

Luckily

for

me,

Kelly

had

known

that

this

was

coming,

so

he

graciously

gave

me

a

week

heads

up

that

allowed

me

to

take

the

lay

off

in

stride.

He

immediately

 began

looking

for

a

new

 job,

and

had

the

full

recommendation

of

his

former

employer.

After

two

 job

offers

and

lots

of

prayer,

Kelly

decided

that

this

was

a

perfect

opportunity

to

go

 back

to

school.

We

really

felt

as

if

the

Lord

was

opening

up

the

door

for

Kelly

to

continue

his

education.

With

the

new

goal

in

mind

going

 back

to

college

to

get

his

degree

we

 began

working

on

our

desires

for

him

to

have

a

part
time

 job

and

ways

for

us

to

financially

support

the

cost

of

tuition.

All

I

can

say

is

GOD

PROVIDED!

Whoo!

Kelly

was

offered

a

totally

flexible

and

great

part
time

 job

 by

his

friend

Chris.

Kelly

now

works

with

Chris

at

his

aquarium

 business,

Urban

Aquatics.

In

addition

to

this

great

set

up,

the

Lord

opened

up

doors

for

Kelly

to

gain

a

full

scholarship

for

school

and

 books.

As

the

University

of

Memphis

Men’s

Soccer

Team

Manager,

Kelly

works

many

hours

taking

care

of

the

team’s

equipment

and

supporting

the

 boys

that

play.

Although

very

time

consuming,

and

making

Kelly

fold

more

clothes

than

he

has

had

in

his

lifetime,

it

has

 been

a

very

rewarding

experience

and

such

a

financial

assist!

Therefore,

when

people

as

me

what

Kelly

does

these

days,

I

say,

“He’s

a

multi
tasker!

Full

time

student,

part
time

worker,

full

time

soccer

manager,

and

full

time

husband.”

Needless

to

say,

Kelly

has

 been

 busy

this

fall.

I

couldn’t

be

more

proud

of

my

man!

Although

we

tried

to

attend

the

much

earlier

we

This

look

to

silly

I

am

proud

to

that

the

a

For

our

middle

sister,

is

now

Robin

Wilson

Kee.

September

27,

2008,

she

 became

Mrs.

Brenton

Kee.

We

are

happy

to

have

Brent

as

part

of

the

family.

Dad

(Heather’s

dad)

loves

the

extra

testosterone

addition.

The

wedding

was

 beautiful,

the

 bride

exquisite,

and

we

had

a

 blast

 being

a

part

of

the

event.
