PGR PROGRAMMES - SUPERVISION NOTES These SUPERVISION NOTES should be completed at each of the FORMAL supervisions held each academic year with the supervisee during the period of study. More frequent INFORMAL meetings, which should also be noted, should be arranged as a matter of mutual convenience and need by the supervisor and supervisee. It is suggested that the FORMAL supervisory meetings should have the following calendar: MEETING 1 (PRIMARY SUPERVISOR): MID-OCTOBER (to comply with three-week rule for first years, and as a way of catching up on summer activity and planning the next academic year, for second- and third-years); MEETING 2 (SUPERVISORY PANEL): MID-DECEMBER (to comply with three-month rule for first years, and as end-of-semester check for second- and third-years); MEETING 3 (PRIMARY SUPERVISOR): MID-MARCH (pre-Easter vacation check); MEETING 4 (SUPERVISORY PANEL): END OF MAY (preparation of report for ANNUAL REVIEW). Please note that the responsibility for the arrangement of these formal meetings lies with the supervisors concerned. It is suggested that all dates are agreed by all parties concerned at the beginning of each academic year. Supervisors and student should each keep a copy of these notes. N.B For part-time students, MEETINGS 2 and 4 alone are necessary each year, apart from the first year, in which an initial supervision within the first three weeks should also be held. For students starting their period of study at a time other than October, the timetable of supervision should be adapted accordingly, but the Annual Review meeting should always take place at the end of May. For registration only students, only MEETING 4 (the Annual Progress Report) is necessary.
