Thank You, Elizabeth Witmer

Statement By Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak April 27, 2012 On behalf of the Ontario PC Caucus, I want to personally thank and congratulate Elizabeth Witmer for her 32 years of service to our province and her continued service to our Party. Elizabeth Witmer has served our province with grace, integrity and distinction and helped guide us through some very challenging times. I first had the chance to work with Elizabeth when I served as her Parliamentary Assistant in the health portfolio. I was later honoured to serve with her as Cabinet colleagues and have her serve as our Caucus Chair under my leadership of our Party. Elizabeths advice and mentorship were invaluable to me and will never be forgotten. Elizabeth Witmer has a long and highly successful career of public service in our province. After serving 10 years as a school trustee on the Waterloo County Board of Education, Witmer was elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1990. Elizabeth Witmer has served the people of Ontario as Deputy Premier, Minister of Labour, Minister of Health, Minister of the Environment, and Minister of Education. With her election in 1990 she became the first female MPP ever elected in the Region of Waterloo, and upon retirement she leaves as the longest serving female MPP in Ontarios history. Witmers accomplishments as a Minister of the Crown include transforming our health care system, introducing our provinces first comprehensive Alzheimer strategy, and the first closure of a coal plant in the province of Ontario. While serving as an opposition Member of the Legislature, Witmer has been a tireless advocate to end bullying and protect our children in Ontarios schools. The Ontario PC Party will forever be grateful to Elizabeth Witmer for the leadership, dedication, guidance and service she has given our Party. She will always be an elder stateswoman of the Ontario PC Party. We wish her well in her new endeavour. Elizabeth Witmer on CP24 April 27, 2012 Reporter: Now Elizabeth, you are a well respected politician from all sides within Queen' Park. s We' hearing reports this afternoon particularly in the Toronto Star we' hearing a report that re re says there is some dissent in the ranks among the Conservative Party and that your resignation is another sign of that. Are you noticing any of that within the Party? Elizabeth Witmer: No. And do you know what, I am really quite insulted, definitely not. In fact I leave knowing that we have a competent leader. We have a strong caucus. We have outstanding new team of staffers and there is certainly no dissension and you know to me, that' offensive s because people are working very hard together. Elizabeth Witmer on The John Tory Show April 27, 2012 John Tory: You earned that these decisions arent easy there is a lot of talk that the stalling and direction on the bully Bill relevant was it? Elizabeth Witmer: Not at all You know I am not like that I am very confident a lot of the work I did the research and consultation over 3 years as far as the bullying bill is concerned is going to be incorporated in government bill. Ive already seen movement on some parts of it. In politics everything moves very slowly that will happen in due course but no there is no unhappiness on my part what-so-ever. I am confident in our leader Tim Hudak, we have a very strong new caucus, there are some outstanding staff there and I am very confident that the future is bright for all of those people. I have really appreciated the support they have given me and being able to work with people on all sides of the house.
