As I prepare to help with a couple weddings I have went back to Johns Gospel and read about Jesus performing his first miracle at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Jesus had just called the first few of his disciples to follow after him and had been invited to a wedding with them. As it goes, they run out of wine [which would be a hospitality nightmare for that time] and Jesus mother, Mary, tells him to get, or make, wine. Jesus somewhat rebukes her but Mary will have nothing of it and tells some servants to do as he says. They take 6 stone water jars [each 20-30 gallons] fill them with water and then serve it to the master of the banquet. The best wine he has ever tasted! Wow, that would be 120 180 gallons of the worlds most expensive wine! All this to say, Jesus took what was simple and common and made something extraordinary out of it. Just a simple country wedding [we dont even know the couples name] with simple, common folk and plain old water[without sounding to trite] add Jesus and wha-laamazing wine! A miracle. What then can he do with your life? With mine? If he is willing to do this just so the couple wouldnt be embarrassed about running out of wine at the feast, what more would he do in your life as you desire to follow him and spread the good news? The servants just had to follow his instructionsI think it would behoove us to do the same! In Christ, Pastor Matt
