1.0 Introduction
The aim of this project is to design Heat Exchanger as one of the selected major equipment in thePlant Design project. The values used in the design of this equipment will be based on the revisedmass balance which can be found in Appendix C with reference to Appendix B. Equations used inthe calculation are presented in the Appendix A with the nomenclature right under the equation. It should be noted that there is no best heat exchanger unit in this world as any unit of heatexchanger need to be custom made and design to suit the process. There are myriads ofcombination and types of heat exchanger proposed in the literature. The selection of heatexchanger type, the number of tubing, the number of plate, the size of tube, the amount of pass intube and shell, the use of baffle, the type of material used, all are part of design consideration whenmaking decision. The design criteria of this equipment are as follow:I. Safe to operateII. Low operating costIII. Low maintenance costIV. Low fabrication costThe safety aspect of the equipment will be placed before any other criteria when designing theequipment.
