FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE30 April 2012ANDERSON CALLS FOR PASSAGE OF THE ERASALT LAKE CITY, UT. Speaking at the Women’s Democratic Club In Salt Lake City onSaturday, Justice Party presidential candidate Rocky Anderson called on America to passthe Equal Rights Amendment.
“Respect for women and equal rights under the law should be the standard. Let's bringback the ERA and pass it this time!”
On Saturday people throughout the country stood together to protest the increasing waron women.Anderson the two term Mayor of Salt Lake City and the founder of the High Road forHuman Rights says this issue is worth far more attention than a one day protest,
“Thelegislative proposals put forward (it seems all by men) are incredible -- 72 hour waiting periods (in Utah!) for an abortion, as if women go for abortions on a lark, withouthinking enough about it, allowing employers to fire women who use contraceptives for family-planning purposes; repeal of equal pay laws, requiring women to undergoinvasive ultrasounds so they will see fetuses and hear their heartbeats before abortions(as if loading on anxiety and guilt is a compassionate thing to do under circumstancesthat are already difficult enough!)”
The entire text of the ERA is: Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not bedenied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Section 2. TheCongress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
“Where’s the controversy?” asks Anderson. “Let's all, regardless of sex and partisanaffiliation, pass the ERA. It is a strong statement, and it should start to end this war onwomen.”
