COCKPIT
Wow! 2011 iscoming quick! We have done alot this year, and I hope to domore this year. We have a lot ofmotiviated members that want toget involved in our activities and Ithink with the right mentorshipand planning, we will be able toaccomplish all of our goals. When I was preparing theslideshow for the ChristmasDinner, I was astonished to seeall of the activities in which wehad participated. We logged a lotof hours, drove a lot of miles andeven grew our squadron by leapsand bounds. All of those activitieswere successful because eachand every one of you volunteeredyour valuable time to thesquadron. My goals for 2011 aretwo-fold. Forst, I would like to getas many members qualified inEmergency Services as possible. That will start with WESS inJanuary and continuing, monthly, until graduation in April. Once wehave qualified members, they cantrain the newcomers. Emergencyservices is a key mission and it isimperative that we makeourselves a valuable and relativeasset to the community and theAlabama Wing. That means wemust organize the Operations andES Staff to prepare for the tasksahead. The first major task is oursponsorship of the SouthernSearch and Rescue Exercisebeing held here in Dothan on the5
th
of February. Next, I would liketo concentrate on the professionaldevelopment of the members ofthe squadron. I know many ofyou have goals, and I would likefor each of you to accomplishthem. I will put forth my besteffort with the support of theexperienced staff and the wingstaff if appropriate.I know everyone is ready for thechallenges ahead. Remember, this is YOUR squadron. Nothingwill happen unless each of usdoes our part.I wish each of you and yourfamilies a Merry Christmas and aHappy New Year!Respectfully,Brett Lewis, Lt Col, CAPCommanding

2010 has come to an end, but just talkingabout the things we did does not seem likeenough. I would like to share with you theactivities we were able to participate in thisyear along with the numbers we were able togenerate throughout the year. Those of youwho were able to attend the ChristmasBanquet probably remember seeing thisinformation, but it
s nice to see again. Here isa list of the activities in which we participatedin 2010:

2010 Winter EncampmentAs you can see, we were a busy squadronthis year. I plan on more events this year withan expansion of our recruiting efforts inAerospace Education members as well asconventional members. Some of the statistics describing our effortsare:

Aircraft Hours Flown: 436.6 Hours

Vehicle Miles Driven: 4028 Miles

New members:
o

16 Senior Members
o

17 Cadet Members

1 Search and Rescue Find

45 Cadet Orientation Rrides
o

88% were first flights

New ES Quals: Too many to count

Earned Professional DevelopmentAwards
o

Level 1: 12
o

Level 2: 4
o

Level 3: 1
I know numbers don’t completely
describe the real story, but it does show that
this squadron’s efforts were meaningful.
Each mile driven and hour flown was insupport of training or real world missions tohelp protect the citizens of the United States. We all have volunteered to give our best tosomething that is bigger and greater than oneperson or thing. Just because we retired orexited from the military or any otherprofession, does not mean we have to stopserving our country. Each of you hasrecognized that. In addition, I cannot sayenough to thank your families in recognitionof their contributions when they selflesslyallow us as CAP members to contribute to ourcommunities. Thank you for a job well doneDothan Composite Squadron.
