Narrative Essay My First Day In University Of Kelantan

Perplex, that is the feeling that I have when I first came to University Malaysia of Kelantan (UMK). Actually I never thought that I will be coming here to further my higher studies but I was offered the Entrepreneurship (Commerce) course for my second intake at UMK so I packed my bags and started my journey to Kelantan. I also felt very anxious and nervous when I first came to Kelantan and live here as it was far away from my hometown which is situated in Bentong, Pahang. Furthermore, i havent travel to other states before plus i have to start a new life in a place that is unfamiliar to me. But I have put all my courage together to come to Kelantan to pursue my higher studies and begin a very exciting adventure of a life time as a junior student in UMK with all the people and seniors that I am about to meet there. I am excited to experience what the Kelantan area and people have in store for me. On the first day when I reached UMK, I didnt have a clue of what to do at UMK during that morning so I walk towards the entry gate of the campus with some relatives accompanying me and met with the gate officer and asked him for directions. We were told that the class has started two weeks earlier before my arrival for the first intake students so I felt a bit left out at the moment. I also felt nervous and scared of the thought that I was unable to cope with the lecture classes that I have to catch up. Since Ive just arrived at UMK, I have to apply my registration as a student at UMK as soon as possible before I can get into lecture classes. Furthermore, I did not acquire the matric card to show that I was the student of UMK so I asked the officer for guidance and showed me the way to the offices and departments that I have to visit and apply for my academic registration. Before me and my relatives left we thanked the officer for the help and he did the same as well. The process of registering me as a student of UMK was not simple but it took me and my relatives some time and we managed to get through it. My relatives were representing me as my guardians when I was registering my personal documents. This is because my mother was ill at that time and my father had passed away when I was in 5th Form back home. After that, we were informed by the registration officers to go the dormitories and check-into my new room where I will be staying at UMK for the next 4 academic years. When I walked out of the campus, we noticed there were 3 stories apartments opposite of the campus which I guessed is the dormitory where Ill be staying. The people that were at the dormitory look happy and they like to hang out at the hut in the middle of the 4 male dormitories and they talk to each other in

a very good manner. It made me think that maybe University life can be fun and not stressful after all. When I greeted them, they also greeted back in a pleasing manner as well. After I checked-in my room which was at the 3rd floor of the 4th block, room number 1, me and my relatives walked up to my room and dropped off my luggage in the room and went for lunch. When we were having our lunch, my relatives informed me that Kelantan was having weekends on Friday and Saturday and weekdays start from Sunday until Thursday. Furthermore they told me to buy drinking water from water vendor machines and never take water from the pipes to drink as the water in Kelantan was dirty. When we were talking, a few students at the restaurant overheard our conversation and they told us that the campuss dormitory have some water issues as sometimes there might be water shortage and we had to get water by reserving in buckets or pail. I was not aware of such problems at UMK and I took their advice seriously. After lunch, I greeted farewell to my relatives as they were going to leave me at UMK. When I walked up to my room, my roommates are already inside. We greeted and introduced each other and became friends after that. The room fit 4 persons to live in and all my roommates are Malays but I didnt mind about that because I could get along with other races well and to support the 1 Malaysia concept created by Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak. Furthermore, I could experience and learn more from them about their culture and traditions in the same time. They talked about their origins, the first one is from Selangor and the other two are Kelantanese. We all also share some Kelantanese dialects that were frequently used in Kelantan. It took me a while to understand what were they talking about but finally after some laughs and teaching I managed to remember a few words. We talked until we were feeling tired then we went to sleep. Tomorrow will be my first day at UMK and my orientation ceremony begins in the morning but that is another story. In conclusion, my first day at UMK was fun and exhilarating! I felt very thankful and happy to be able to pursue my higher studies at UMK and to live in Kelantan which is a very exciting experience that I shall cherish for the rest of my life and I will never forget it.
