Clubs atAnderson Universityrange from sports to worship, and even international politics through ModelUnited Nations. Students met once a week last semester to discuss current international issues, study theirassigned country, and write draft resolutions. Their preparation allowed them to participate in a nationalconference as the delegation from the Republic of Chad at the 2011 Model UN conference hosted byHarvard University.Each participating university sent a delegationrepresenting a country assigned prior to the event.Members of each country’s delegationrepresented the country on a committee specifiedby the conference. The committees were similar tothe committees in the United Nations, such as theGeneral Assembly and Economic and SocialCouncil (ECOSOC), as well as historicalcommittees. The present committees debatedcurrent issues in the world and worked towardresolutions, while the historical committees tookthe outcome of the international incident intoconsideration to find a different resolution. More than 150universities attended, which means 300 students per committee,” Daugherty said. “Having that many peoplerepresenting different ideas can get crazy, but the conference makes the debate very organized. Theconference had time limits for each country to state their position on a topic.”
