BRAD SHERMAN.
A lifetime of effective leadership.
Brad Sherman has a long history of public service and effective leadership. He grew up in Southern California and graduated from UCLA and Harvard Law School. He worked in the private sector for 15 years as a CPA and tax law specialist for middle income taxpayers and small businesses. Brad served on the Board of Directors for California Common Cause from 1984 to 1989, working to reform state campaign finance laws. In 1990 Brad was elected to the State Board of Equalization where he fought to make tax laws fair for middle class families, save the renters tax credit, repeal the unfair Snack Tax and slam shut corporate tax loopholes. Since 1997 Brad has served as a representative for the San Fernando Valley in the United States Congress. He has developed a reputation as a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility, protecting Medicare and Social Security, policies to expand U.S. exports and create local jobs, and federal support for public education. In Congress Brad Sherman is a senior member of the Financial Services Committee where he led the fight to stop the $700 billion TARP bailout of Wall Street. Sherman serves as the ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee on Terrorism and Nonproliferation and is helping to lead efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. In 2012, Brad Sherman was awarded the Humane Champion Award by the Humane Society of the United States. Brad Sherman is married to Lisa Kaplan Sherman and they have three daughters, Molly, Naomi and Lucy.

Took on Wall Street and fought to stop the $700 billion TARP bailout.
In 2008, Brad Sherman, a CPA and Senior Democrat on the Financial Services Committee, stood up to the leadership of both parties and powerful Wall Street lobbyists and fought to stop the $700 billion TARP bailout of Wall Street and the big banks. Sherman organized a group of opponents to the bailout bill and defeated it on the floor of the House of Representatives by a 228 to 205 vote. This was despite arm-twisting from the Bush Administration, the leaders of both parties and every lobbyist on K Street. Four days later, the supporters of TARP pushed through a revised version of the bailout bill. But by then, Sherman had forced changes in the bailout program which saved taxpayers over $400 billion by preventing the government purchase of toxic assets.
