for the company thinkglass in Quebec, canada, its designs arent just about creating counter tops, stairways or dining tables, its about the glass having artistic value. we want all of the glass to have an organic feel, thinkglass president Bertrand charest said. we want to bring nature back and make sure out pieces have feeling. founding the company 11 years ago with the simple idea of creating beautiful glasswork, charest and michel mailhot, the artistic soul of the company, have continued to expand their reach. one of the most successful glass design and manufacturing studios in the world, the companys shop is more than 30,000 square feet, with 17 state of the art, custom made ovens, which produce everything from kitchen and bathroom countertops to backsplashes, sculptures, wall murals and floor tiles. even better, all thinkglass creations are made from 100 percent recyclable glass using sustainable practices. glass has such a modern feel and is so luminous, Bertrand said. it is a great product to have in the home and is easy to clean and maintain.

the companys unique designs have continued to get the attention not only from los angeles to new york, but across the globe. companies, architects and home buyers in india, italy, dubai and russia have all had pieces commissioned by thinkglass. Specifically in california, the company has two retailers, one in San francisco and the other in pasadena. and while prices can vary depending on special shapes and custom specifications, retail prices range from approximately $200 - $400 per square foot, including cut-outs (sink, cooktop, faucets) and edge treatments. while nearly all thinkglass designs are for indoor use, Bertrand said the company has begun to think about outdoor glass designs, including outside kitchen countertops and steps. i am an engineer by education and the one thing i have learned is that you must keep pushing the limits of what you do, Bertrand said. it is something we try and do every year.
