(www.peerinc.org)P.E.E.R., Inc., founded in 2005, aims toempower a thriving, diverse communityin the eastern area of Birminghamthrough resources for healthy living,learning, and working. All food for the conference will beprepared and served by the East LakeCommunity Kitchen, a new program of P.E.E.R., Inc. Eight chef-apprenticesare enrolled in a four-month trainingprogram to learn commercial foodpreparation with fresh produce andother nutritious foods. Upon completionof the program, chef-graduates will belinked with permanent food servicepositions. The menu will include freshproduce from local farmers.The East Lake Community Kitchen islocated in the East Lake UnitedMethodist Church at the corner of 2nd Ave. S. and 78th St. There is ampleparking and a professional securityguard will be on duty for the event.Facilities are handicap accessible.
