1 COVERAGE TERMINOLOGY

RECEIVER DISTRIBUTION -A term used to describe the location of receivers on either side of the ball from weak to strong. Example: 1 weak or 1strong, 2 weak or 2 strong ALLEY A cover 3 adjustment by the SS used to defend vertical routes by the #1 and #2 receivers resulting in a 4 deep coverage. A term used to describe a man coverage concept on #s 1, 2, and 3 weak. A term used to describe the SS in a head up alignment weak used with coverages 2 and 4CLD. A term used to describe Willy aligned on #1 weak or the SS aligned on #1 strong in a head up alignment. Willy and SS in heads alignment on #1 weak and A term used to describe man coverage on Z. A term used to describe man coverage on X. A term used to describe man coverage on Y. A term used to describe man coverage on H. 0 will be used to describe any 3 man rush coverage with rush end having coverage responsibility. A term used to denote defensive linemen dropping into coverage w/ pressure.

A term used to describe an underneath coverage overshifted strong.

WIN - A term used to describe an underneath coverage overshifted weak. FSL - A term used to describe a coverage (SS) rolled into the boundary to defend a 2 back formation with strength into the sideline. BRACKET HAND A term used to describe a combination man coverage with a secondary 4 a LBer on receiver. Five man rush, with zone coverage behind the rush.

BUZZ -Exchange of flat and curl responsibilities between safety + outside LBer in cover 3 or 6. BANJO FLOAT A term used to describe a combination man coverage on #2 + #3 receiver by two defenders. Cover 4 concept could go to Cover 2 on flat release of # before 6yds.

SPY - A term used to denote pick up on outside release by cage players.

VICE - A term used to describe a combination man coverage on #1 strong and #1 weak by safety + corner. UP A term used to describe LBers showing pressure. FX Will up.

MUG - A term used to describe a linebacker showing pressure. We will say Mike Mug, Sam Mug, etc. . . SHOW FIST BOX FIN A term used to describe a Safety showing pressure. A safety shows weak in the box in a Lber position. A term used to denote a safety showing strong in the box. A term used to denote a safety lining up in the box in the middle. A term used to denote a defender on the L.O.S. over Y with SAM, WILL, or a DE aligned outside.

BEAR -

BAIL - Corner technique aligned in press and then running out for 1/3 coverage . PRESS HOLE ROBBER THIEF STRONG WEAK Corner aligned tight on WR in man coverage. Man - free term used with 4 man rush, indicating that there is a free Lber. Low Hole player. Man - free term indicating SS in hole coverage with FS in centerfield. Man - free coverage term indicating FS in hole coverage with SS behind in centerfield. Used in cover 0 to indicate FS is strong ( Assume weak). Used in cover 9 to indicate that FS is weak (Assume strong).

FOX - FS coming down to be flat defender. PROGRESSIONS We will want to know if an opponents defensive underneath coverage are reading progressions or spot dropping. The defenders will number receivers + play a man concept within a zone.
