June 2010Dear Mayor Bloomberg:We are pleased to present the nal report o the Commission on Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Runaway and HomelessYouth.As you recognized in creating the Commission, addressing the complex needso LGBTQ youth requires a coordinated agenda. Since you announced theCommission on October 5, 2009, the members have undertaken extensiveresearch and analysis and received critical input rom many stakeholders,including national experts and youth with rst-hand experience o homelessness.While the Commission’s ndings conrm that LGBTQ homeless youthace special challenges, we strongly believe that the recommendationsand strategies set out in the report oer actionable steps to promote bestpractices, oster a culture o respect and acceptance, and address theunderlying causes o homelessness among LGBTQ youth. The members o the Commission are immensely grateul to you or theunprecedented opportunity to work together to help New York City lead thenation in improving the lives o this vulnerable group o young people.Ana L.
