The best things in life are Libre

I would have charged this to experience, aniya sa INQUIRER. But the cussing I received from her [Claudine] changed my mind. Besides, this should serve a lesson to them to respect lowly people. ports of baggage being lost in transit, especially when they reach Naia 3, which is C e b u Pa c i f i c s b e rthing place. The airline is also not friendly with its handicapped passengers as they are made to go down a flight of stairs from the plane, walk a distance from the ramp to the terminal building, climb up to the second floor, and climb down to the cargo carousel. I learned the airline does not use the airbridge or tube to save on expenses; the fee for using the tube at Naia 3 is about P7,000, so I heard. Using the tube in getting into or out of the plane is much more convenient for a passenger as he or she doesnt have to go down several flights of stairs. I featured Cebu Pacifics handling of passengers and baggage on March 22 in this column several days after I arrived at the Naia 3 from Davao City on the airlines early morning flight. I said in that column the reason the airline kept on giving its passengers inefficient service was that nobody seemed to complain. The title of that column was Filipinos dont assert their rights, in reference to

Journalists instinct
Thats why I silently cheered the irate woman at the complaints counter. But I lost sympathy for the actress when she started becoming personal with the ground stewardess. She called her names at the top of her voice and this was attracting many passengers who had just retrieved their luggage at the carousel and were on their way out. Having a journalists instinct of recording significant events, I took out my cellular phone, which has a camera in it, and took still photos of Claudine berating the ground stewardess. A man, whom I came to know later as actor Raymart Santiago, accosted me and demanded to know why I was taking shots of the incident. I placed my cell phone inside the left hip pocket of my paparazzi vest and tried to leave. I was hungry and my car was waiting for me outside the terminal building. But Raymart stopped me and told me to hand over the cell phone to him. As he reached for my left hip pocket, I

My guard down
I wouldnt have been hurt badly if I hadnt let my guard down. As I was parrying punches from all sides, I saw several uniformed men comingairport policemen and blue guards and I tried to submit myself to them. I thought I would be safe with the arrival of the police and the security guards. I was wrong. Saksi vs carnap gang tinumba

His testimony was very important and he was really able to pin down the Domiguez brothers. So, under these circumstances, we can really say that, as of this moment, the syndicate is the No. 1 suspect, ani De Lima. I believe that the remnants of the Dominguez car [theft] group killed Mendiola. The groups leaders, the brothers Roger and Raymond Dominguez, have the strongest motives to do him harm because of his testimony about the Venson Evangelista murder case, ani Robredo. Sinabi ni Robredo na ang iba pang testigo laban sa magkapatid na mag-take extra precaution and seek police protection, if necessary.

ciency. They were accompanied by their professors, Osnel Melodillar and Juanita Juanilla. It was inspiring. As a future teacher, I got tips on how to engage kids through reading, said Rozhel Amante, one of the observers from LSPU. It is a very creative way of getting kids interested in readingeven the young ones who still do not know how to read are taught at an early age that reading is fun, Amantes classmate Dwane Arboleda said.

TORIES about beating all odds and overcoming challenges were at the center of yesterday mornings INQUIRER Read-Along session held at the INQUIRER main office in Makati City, which marked the programs fifth anniversary.
Another session was held at the INQUIRER Southern Luzon Bureau at the Raul S. Roco Library in Naga City with readers from the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines. Clad in a mermaid costume with matching green wig, INQUIRER columnist Tessa PrietoValdes led the days readers in Makati, including regular readalong storytellers Dyali Justo of Adarna House and Ann Abacan and teachers from Sophia School in Meycauayan, Bulacan. Valdes read Aklat Batibots Sina Linggit Laban kay Barakuda as retold by Tom Agulto and Rene Villanueva, a story about how a school of tiny fish found a way to defeat a common, giant enemy, before an audience of more than 100 kids from Virlanie Foundation, Hands-on Manila, ChildHope, Service for Peaces Al-Salaam Community of Peace in Quezon City and St. Anthony of Makati Montessori School. It was Justo who opened the session with a reading of Mary Ann Ordinario-Florestas Kingdom With No Stories, a tale of a young girl who pursued her passion for writing stories despite living in a land where it is forbidden, sacrificing her life so other children may continue to enjoy her stories.

Stories galore
Sophia School principal Abacan narrated Victoria Aonuevos Target: Odon, Ang Higanti ng Maliliit, a story about how a group of small animals banded together to defeat an evil giant. Assisting Abacan were Sophia teachers Nerry Denilla, Lorna Darilag, Sally Villaruz, Ellie Carable, Doray Carable and Os-

ang de la Vega, who acted out the parts of the characters in a lively chamber storytelling segment. Valdes was accompanied by daughter Athena, who was celebrating her seventh birthday, to the session. A returning storyteller, Valdes asked some of the children to assist her in her storytelling and gave away cookies before the end of the session. I love attending the readalong sessions and I am very happy to be part of it, said Valdes, who is part of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which airs on TV5 on Sundays. I am a regular suki. It is always fun and I am happy that I am able to help promote reading to the kids.

imagination and brings you to different places. Today is particularly special, not just because the INQUIRER Read-Along is celebrating its fifth anniversary, but also because I was able to bring my daughter, Valdes said, adding, I am glad that I am able to teach Athena the importance of reaching out and sharing ones blessings by doing activities like the read-along. Children from Virlanie Foundation thanked the INQUIRER Read-Along through a handwritten greeting card, which read: Thank you INQUIRER ReadAlong for always inviting us, and for teaching us how to read in English and Filipino. I enjoyed todays read-along session because the stories were all interesting and it made me want to learn how to read at once, said 5-year-old Ericka Nabi, who came to the session with her friends from St. Anthony of Makati.

Dunkin treats
The kids received snacks from Dunkin Donuts and gift packs containing items given by the Rotary Club of Makati and Pilipinas Shell after the session, which was hosted by Junior INQUIRER editor Ruth Navarra. A special INQUIRER ReadAlong 101 workshop will be held on May 11 with Alitaptap Storytellers Phils. and the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (NAPWC). A read-along session showcasing the results of the storytelling workshop will follow at 10 a.m. on May 12, also at the NAPWC. A repeat of last years simultaneous read-along sessions with the Philippine Navys teleconferencing technology will be held on May 19 at Navy headquarters in Manila and eight other naval bases across the country.

Life lessons
Alyiana Regalado, 9, said she was happy to be part of the read-along, adding that her favorite story was Target: Odon. The story taught me to treat everyone fairly, regardless of size. I also like the friendship between the characters and how that helped in defeating their enemy, she said. Virlanies Reynalyn Mapalad, 11, said she learned new things during the session. The storytellers were all great, but the best story for me was Target: Odon. Through this story, I learned the importance of standing up against bullies, she said. For 11-year-old Mohhamad Ryan Usudan, who came with the Al-Salaam community from Quezon City, while all the stories read were also interesting, his favorite was Sina Linggit Laban Kay Barakuda. From this story, I learned that being big or small should not stop a person from achieving his goals, he said.

Friday and Andi doesnt frequent that place. Lacson and Arce refuse to comment about the issue bilang advise ng kanilang mga lawyer. My sources told me that Frank Magalona was upstairs busy partying with friends while the beating took place downstairs. Si Carlos naman ay nagbigay ng official statement : I have no involvement with the beating of Albie Casio. Ive never even met him. I was not even in Fiamma that night. I was at home. I have proof of my whereabouts and if they need it they can contact me. Id like a retraction and apology from the one accusing me.

I feel for them. Sabi pa ni Andi, hes the one always threatening to kill me. And thats just a very small anecdote compared to what horrible things Albie put her through during their time to-

Tag team

Pangatlo: sinasabi nyong respect your privacy? You're in an airport, a public place. You're Claudine and Raymart, a very public couple. Intrigue comes with the showbiz territory.

PBA record beckons Cone

By Musong R. Castillo
THERE was no doubt that BMegs one-for-the-books triumph over gallant Talk N Text in the PBA Commissioners Cup title series Sunday night was all about the players, Denzel Bowles and James Yap in particular. By carrying the Llamados to the epic win, Bowles and Yap completed their classy performance after also being named the Best Import and the Excelroof-PBA Press Corps Finals MVP respectively. , So where does Tim Cone, the man who moved all the pieces, fit historically in all of this? I have only two goals in life, and I have made this no secret, Cone told reporters, moments after the 14th title of his storied coaching career sunk in. My goals are to catch Babys (Dalupan) record, and put my kids through college. Dalupan, the charismatic motivator who was the author of the PBAs first Grand Slam with Crispa in 1976, is now just one title ahead of Cone, and Tim has a formidable team in the Llamados who look like they could win a handful more. Cone won his first 13 titles with Alaska which, whether anyone admits it or not, he left bitterly before the start of the season. It ended a partnership that spanned more than two decades. That all-time record by The Maestro Dalupan is definitely there for the taking for Cone. It looks really realistic at this point, compared to Tiger Woods quest to win four more golfing Majors and overtake Jack Nicklaus lifetime haul of 18. And Cone has Bowles and Yap to thank for moving him a step closer. The duo was practically all that was left of B-Meg in the toughest of times late in the series with Yap keeping himself composed to find Bowles in the shaded lane for a brilliant pass that eventually sent the 6-foot10 import to the line to forge overtime. For some reason, I knew he was going to make those two free throws, Cone said of his prized import, who cried like a baby after tying the game for the last time at 76 with 1.2 seconds left in the final quarter. I think he just doesnt know any better because he is so young. A lot of things just happened right for us in the end to win that game, he added while giving credit to Talk N Text for a courageous stand. Is it destiny? I dont know. I wont know for sure how we won that basketball game, the amiable American mentor said.

Inquirer wires
