Grant awardees include 38 area non
prots that focus on ve key areas: access
to prevention and primary care services;reducing obesity and overweight rates inadults and children; decreasing risky teenbehaviors; prevention of community violence;
and reducing health disparities.New this year, the Annual Ofcer Jim
Capoot Community Project of the Year
Award. The award was presented to On The
Move from Napa for making an impact in thecommunity and changing lives of underserved
populations. On The Move combines health
education, access to fresh produce, civicengagement, and leadership development in
Napa’s diverse McPherson neighborhood.
“It is a privilege to be recognized by KaiserPermanente with this award,” said Nick Challed,
Grants Director for On The Move. “Kaiser has
become a true partner with us, supporting usby strategizing, connecting us to community
resources and believing in our work. To bepresented with the rst Ofcer Jim Capoot
Community Project of the Year Award speaksnot only to the work that we do but to thememory of a community member who also
cared so much about youth.”Jennifer Capoot, the wife of the VallejoPolice Ofcer who lost his life last year in
the line of duty, helped acknowledge all the
organizations in attendance. “I would like tothank you for honoring Jim and keeping hismemory alive. He loved the community andwe appreciate you loving him back.”Capoot’s beat partner, Ofcer Alan
Caragan also addressed attendees, speaking of
dedication and the importance of community.“Jim was an awesome xture in the city of Vallejo and beyond. Jim cared more for peoplethan almost anything….His legacy will be
awesome and his desire was for every kid to
grow up safe and have a happy life. He was
a Marine so he also embraced challenges and
taught kids to overcome their challenges. Heloved his community. That will be his legacy.”

District (NVUSD)schools have steppedforward in numbersto help plan andperform in singer
Terry Bradford’s
May 12th concert,“Luminosity,” at theNapa Valley Opera
House. This concertbenets The Music Connection’s efforts to
bring music back to NVUSD elementary
schools for the 2012-2013 school year.
Twenty percent of the concert ticket salesand 100% of the proceeds from the saleof the unique concert souvenir book willgo to The Music Connection.
These remarkable students jumped at
the chance to do something wonderful
for their community. Their involvementincludes designing posters, lming
rehearsals, writing articles, and
participating in the upcoming concert. For
them, the icing on the cake is having theopportunity to work with a world-class
performer. Terry Bradford is best known
as Celine Dion’s duet partner on tour for
ve years, 1990 Star Search Male Vocalist
Champion, and back-up singer to such
artists as Whitney Houston, Elton John,and Patti LaBelle. His voice can be heard
on such popular entertainment projects as
“The Lion King,” “What’s Love Got to DoWith It?,” and “The Rugrats,” just to namea few.Terry’s passion for music is the driving
force behind his efforts to ensure that allyouth have access to music education in their
schools.
The enthusiasm and excitementTerry has experienced in working withNapa Valley students on past musicprojects inspired him to share the brightspotlight with the talented youth of Napa Valley in an explosive, high-energyconcert, LUMINOSITY.
