Selection Procedure

In order to make the correct seal selection it is necessaryto know:
The product to be sealed
Pressure to be sealed
Shaft speed
Shaft or sleeve dia.
Temperature of product in the seal areaIt is assumed that by knowing the product, its boilingpoint at the pressure to be sealed is also known. In the procedure described here, products to be sealedare divided into aqueous products and hydrocarbons.

Example:
Water at 1MN/m
2
, 3000 rev/min, 45 mm shaft dia.,175
C temperature at seal, 7m/s peripheral speed.
Step1:
Consult Table 1 for Aqueous Products or Table 2Hydrocarbons and note:
The vapour pressure curve number, and possible
seal face materials, seal packing and other sealcomponent materials together with any specialremarks for satisfactory operation.
