Roseville’s downtown merchants welcome theannual Downtown Tuesday Nights, citing that theevent is good for business.From May through July, Vernon Street in downtownRoseville is overrun with thousands of community members and visitors who come every Tuesday nightto take part in the street fair.The event features livemusic, a certified farm-ers market, classic carshow, arts and crafts,beer and margaritas, avariety of food vendorsand more.Scott Alvord, presi-dent of the DowntownRoseville Merchants Association, says theevent is a “huge oppor-tunity” for exposure fordowntown merchants.“I think it showcasesthe businesses and what we have to offer,” Alvordsaid. “And it also shows alot of our culture. On certain eveningsfrom May through July,downtown Rosevilletransforms into a fun andfestive outdoor party forDowntown Tuesday Nights. A visitor likely won’teven realize that during the daytime, major con-struction will be taking place on some of thosesame streets, as the city of Roseville builds its new Town Square. This publicgathering space will fea-ture a water fountain andstage for theatrical andmusical acts.Construction of theTown Square is scheduledto begin by early June andbe complete by spring 2013, said the city’s Devel-opmental Analyst Bill Aiken.“We’re doing everything we can to minimizeimpacts to downtown,” Aiken said.The city made sure itsselected contractoragreed to accommodatethe popular annual eventby shutting down con-struction work by 3 p.m.on Tuesdays, so workers will be gone before thefestivities even begin.The Town Square willbe located in the currentparking lot for Civic Cen-ter. Aiken said its con-struction will producesome traffic detours, butthere will “always beoptions for getting through downtown.”He said the city has
