HITHERTOourannualgatheringshavebeencharacter- isedbythespiceofvariety,andthisConferencehas beennoexceptiontotherule.Thepassageoftheyear generatessomefreshtopicwhichcallsforcollective consideration,andyieldsopportunityfortheexercise ofthewisdomoftheConference.Atthepresentas- semblynewtopicswerediscussed,andtheresults reachedwereattainedwithquiteremarkableunanim- ity.Webelievethatallwhowerepresentreturned totheirhomesfeelingthatthetimehadbeenwell spent,andthattheConferenceof1907haditsown featuresofinterestwhichwouldmakeitstandoutfrom thoseofformeryears,andthatithadyieldednosmall amountofhelpandencouragementtoallwhotook partinit.Ourlistofvisitorswasnotsolargeason formeroccasions.NorepresentativefromtheSouth- ernChurcheswasabletobepresent,andwewerenot favouredbyanyAustralianfriendswhocouldgiveus cheerbytheirpresence.Butwewereheartilygladto seesomeoftheoldfriendswhocametousfromdis- trictsnearerhome,andwhoassistedtomakeourCon- ferencebothinterestingandprofitable. OurprogrammehadarrangedforapicniconJanu- ary1sttoPineIsland.Thelongspellofbeautiful weatherwehadenjoyeddidnotallowforthcpossi- bilityofthisbeingprevented,buttheraincameon, andfellsoheavilyandsocontinuouslythatthe excursionwasquiteoutofthequestion.Thosewho ventureddowntothewharf,"toseeifotherswent," afterwardsadjournedtothechurchbuildinginWest Street,andarrangedtohavethedaythere.Wordwas senttoothers,and,inthecourseoftheafternoon, severalofthefriendswendedtheirwaytothebuilding, andengagedintheconversationandgamesgoingon. Alljoinedinsinging"AllHailthePowerofJesu's Name,"andthefollowingprayerearnestlybesought theDivineblessingandguidanceuponthedeliberations tofollow.Therollofdelegateswascalled.Amongst thesewasBro.'I'aylor,oftheThames;Bro.Cameron, ofHelensville;Bro.Jenkin,ofAhuroa;Bro.Aldridge represented'I'imaru,andBro.Griggwasexpectedto representDunedin,buthewasunabletobepresent. laidbeforeus.A~briefandeffectivepolicyforthein- comingyearwaslaiddown!bytheExecutiveassoonas itgottowork.Itwasearlyrecognisedthattocarry onanyeffectivelabourmoremoneywasrequired.We adoptedaplan,ineffectivelytriedheretofore,toreach awidercirclebymeansofmissionboxes.Anumber ofthesistersinWestStreetChurchsympathisedwith ourplan,andwillinglyagreedtobecomecollectors. Thefundthusinauguratedhasresultedinasum equivalenttoonepoundperweek.Theinauguration ofthissuccessfulschemeencouragedusinourde- siretosendoutaman,asurgedatourlastConference. WeconsideredthatourBro.Taylorwouldbethemost suitablemantosendinresponsetotherequestthat cametousfromDunedin.ThatChurchstatedwhat itcouldpromisetowardsayear'ssalary,andweagreed tosupplementthat.Afterthesepreliminaryarrange- meruts,
a
deputationwassenttointerviewBro.Taylor, who,uponconsiderationofthematter,couldnotsee hiswaytoenteruponthisfield.OurDunedinfriends weredisappointed,and,afteratime,theymadeare- questfortheservicesforatimeofBro.Aldridge.This waslaidbeforetheWestStreetExecutive,withthe resultthatathreemonths'visitwasarranged,and goodworkwasdone.ItwillremainforthisCon- ferencetoseehowthisworkcanbecontinued. Iwillpressuponyouto-daytheimportanceofthe messagesentbyPaultoThessalonica,thattousis "entrustedthisgospel."Ifeelacertainamountof responsibilityisrestinguponme,andIdesireyouto realisethattheresponsibilityalsorestsuponyou.If wecarryonthisworkwithasingleeyetothegloryof God,itwillnotbetaskwork,butourresponsibility willbecomepleasurableactivities,andweshallenter withjoyintotheservicetowhichGodhascalledus. Ipraythatourbusinessthisdaymayredoundtothe honourofourLordJesusChrist,whomweserve. TheSecretaryreadtheminutesofthelastConfer- ence,whichwereconfirmed.Thiswasfollowedbythe

DEARBRETHRENANDSISTERS, Therehasjustclosedoneofthebusiestyearsexperi- encedbyyourExecutiveforsomeconsiderabletime,andal- thoughwecannotreporthavingdonegreatthings,wehave donethebestwecouldtofurtherthecauseofourAssociation. Oureffortshavenotbroughtabouttheresultswhichwecould havedesired.butwefeelthatourendeavourshavenotbeen lost,andthattheover-rulinghandoftheAlmightyhasbeen withus. YourExecutivegottoworkearly,thefirstmeetingbeing heldonthe18thJanuary.Thefirstbusinesswhichmetus wastheconsiderationofaletterfromWaihiChurch.request- ingaperiodicalvisitfromBro.Aldridge.Thiswelaidbefore theAucklandChurch,withthedesiredresult. AtthatsamemeetingaletterwasreadfromBro.Green,of NewPlymouth,suggestingthataconferencebeheldatEaster inTaranaki,withaviewtothespreadoftheTruthinthat province.Weapprovedofthesuggestion,andfourofour numbervolunteeredtheirpresenceandassistanceshouldit eventuate.ThebrethreninNewPlymouth,however,didnot meetwiththeencouragementwhichtheyexpectedfromthe outlyingdistricts,andyourSecretary,beinginNewPlymouth earlyinMarch,wasinstructedtoreporttotheExecutivethat owingtotheveryfewinTaranakiwhocouldbepresentatthe proposedConference,itwasdecidedtoabandontheproject. TheunsatisfactorystateofthefundsoftheAssociation calledforourconsideration,and,afteralongdiscussion,it wasdecidedtorecommencewithrenewedenergythesystem ofcollectionbymeansofboxes,whichweretobeplacedinthe homesofsympathisers.Thiswasstarted,anduptothepre- senthasprovedagreatsuccess,theresultbeinganincomeof about£1perweek,whichisreallyaboutdoubletheamount weconsideredwouldlikelybeobtainedinthisway;andat thisjuncture

AtournextmeetingaletterwasreadfromtheDunedin Church,anditstonewasafamiliarone,viz.,"Sendsomeone tohelpus."Bro.Taylor,oftheThames,wasmentioned,and adeputationwasappointedtointerviewourbrother,butwith- outsuccess;ashecouldnotseehiswaytoacceptoftheoffer made.MW-WINTERMEETING.-WeheldourMid-WinterMeeting onthe8thAugust.Thesemeetingsareheldprimarilyforthe purposeofkeepingtheAssociationanditsclaimsandworkbe- forethepeople.Therewasafairattendance.Theprogramme consistedofasolo,arecitation,andoneortwoitemsbythe choir,andtwoaddresses,onefromBro.White,andonefrom Bro.Aldridge,followedbyshortresponsivetalksfromthe audience. TheAssociationhasunderofferfromabrotherthesumof £1perweekfortwelvemonths,tobeusedtoassistinthe supportofatravellingevangelist.Weregret,however,that uptothepresentwehavenotbeenabletotakeadvantageof thismoney,.buthopethatsoonwemaybeabletoavailour- selvesofourbrother'sverygenerousoffer. OurEditor,Bro.Aldridge,hasjustreturnedfromathree months'visittotheDunedinChurch,andduringhisabsence theSTA'NDARDwasleftinthehandsofBro.EmestAldridge. andtohimwerecordourthanks.Assoonaspossibleafter ourbrother'sreturnweheldameeting,atwhichhegavea verbalreportoftheworkintheSoutherncity,andimpressed uponusthenecessitytofollowupasquicklyaspossiblethe workwhichhehadjustleft.Anxioustodowhatwecould, and,ifpossible,tostrikewhiletheironwashot,wemade anotherattempttofindthemuch-wantedman,butwithout success.AdeputationwasappointedtointerviewBro.Chas.
