INTRODUCTION

This report is about the Soil Investigation works done on Cadangan Pembangunan Bercampur Di Atas Lot 28735 Jalan Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan, Pahang Darul Makmur starting from 16th October 2006 until 20th October 2006. The desk study has been carried out as to ensure all relevant and existing information or data for the sites subsoil condition. In this site, there was only site topography investigation which eventually gave them information of the site by topographic maps. The site was a part of flat area and has only shrubs surrounded the site. For these investigations, there were about two (2) Boring Methods and four (4) Mackintosh Probe have been proposed on this site. The investigations have been carried out by using TOHO D2K Machine and has used washed rotary type. The investigations were based on Determination and BS Standard 5930 : 1981 which was the maximum depth for this investigation was 39.0 metre or following the three (3) hard layers with 50 blows/300mm of Standard Penetration Test (SPT). The scope of works proposed were doing soil excavation works for two (2) Boring Methods , taking Standard Penetration Test (SPT) values , taking sample of soils , measuring the water level in Bore Hole, doing four (4) Mackintosh Probe Tests , and doing laboratory tests on sample of soils taken from the site. The details of the laboratory and field tests will be explained briefly later in this report.

SAMPLING METHOD

The sample of soil has been taken by using Split-Spoon Sampler or more known as Sample Tube method.

The sample of soil has been taken when the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is done on the site.

Split-Spoon Sampler is attached to the drilling rod and then lowered deep down to the bottom of the borehole.

The sampler attached to the drilling rod is driven into the soil by blowing down the hammer deep into the soil for 50blows per 300mm.

After driving down the sampler work is completed , the sampler is withdrawn from the drilling rod , and the soil sample is collected inside the split tube then is removed and being labelled and being transported to the laboratory in small glass jars or suitable container such as plastic as to ensure the moisture content can be controlled .

Only samples of soils which comes from soft soils and pre-soft soils can be taken out by using this sample.
