INTRODUCTION
QWL can be define as the quality of relationship

between employees and the total working environment. QWL is a process by which an organization responds to employee needs for developing mechanisms to allow them to share fully in making the decisions that design their lives at work.

OBJECTIVE
To find out way to improve QWL of women

employees in SAIL. To gain an insight into current working life policies and practices, as well as work life balance issues of women employees.

PARAMETERS OF MEASURING QWL FOR WOMEN


Work timing. Safety and healthy working condition. Superior subordinate relation. Opportunity to use and develop capabilities.. Grievances procedure.

LITERATURE
The term "quality of work life(QWL) was first

introduced in 1972 during an international labor relations conference (Hian and Einstein, 1990). HYPOTHESES
There is significant relationship between safety and security at workplace and women. 2. There is a significant relationship between stress free environment and women . 3. There is a significant relationship between age and quality of worklife.

DETERMINING SAMPLE DESIGN


Universe- All women working in SAIL in India.

Population-Working women in R & D unit of SAIL

in Ranchi. Sample- The women selected for the research study from the population. Sample size 50. Sampling technique-Stratified Random sampling.

TEST OF HYPOTHESES
To test the hypothesis we choose chi square test.

H1 : There is a significant relationship between

safety and security at work place and women. a) Calculated chi square value is 11.11 which is greater than the tabulated value 3.84 at 5% level of significance. b) Therefore the null hypothesis is rejected and hence there is a relationship between security and safety and women.

H2: there is a significant relationship between

stress free environment and women. a) Calculated chi square value is 11.16, which is greater than the tabulated value of 5.99 at 5% level of significance. b) Therefore the null hypothesis is rejected and hence there is relationship between women and stress free environment at work place.

H3: There is a significant relationship between

age and QWL. According to the survey conducted there was no significant difference found between the responses of women employees of age group 31-40 and above 40 yrs. So, the hypothesis is rejected.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSION


Women are satisfied with their job and there work

timing. They are satisfied with safety and security at work place in sail They are able to manage family and their work life . Grievances procedure are timely readdressed. Good relationship between superior -subordinate and co-workers.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Non executive Timely promotions Motivation through rewards and recognition Executive Mental peace programmes like meditation and yoga Recreational activities like game and films etc. Work load is more so, work life balances issue should be supported by the organization.
