A Little History.......
Our Planet is approximately4.5 billionyears old.About 240 million years ago thecontinents were all one giant landmass . It was calledPANGEA.The theory of Continental Drift wasproposed in 1912 byAlfred Wegener.This theory was not generally accepted
until the 1960’s, at which time it
became called the science ofPlateTectonics.

Wegener’s theory was not accepted
becausehe could not explain how the continents drifted apart.Arthur Holmes 
proposed that the Earth’s
mantle was a hot , soupy layer that thecontinents slid around on.
