By Jim AkansThe 52nd National Morel Mushroom Festivalbegins this Thursday, May 17th, and continuesthrough Sunday, May 20th. Morels are elusive,exotic, and oh so delicious and that’s why eachspring, thousands of people head for the northernMichigan woodlands in search of this magnificentmushroom.During the festival, there will be a MorelSeminar led by local morel expert Anthony Williams, a guided morel hunt and the Morelfest“Wine & Dine,” a Morel Breakfast, the Boyne Valley Lions National Mushroom Hunt, “Taste of Morels!” event, Private Property Morel Hunt and a“Great Morel Giveaway.”Throughout the festival there will be carnivalrides courtesy of Schmidt Amusements, plus aCraft Show at Veterans Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of music in Veterans Park during the evening, with a concertfeaturing local musicians on Thursday, the soundsof one of Detroit’s finest groups, the ThornettaDavis Band on Friday night, a special perform-ance by Audio Circus on Saturday night, an TNT &Northern Nites on Sunday afternoon.There will also be a Michigan OutdoorRecreational Experiences and Living Show atSunset Park from 10 am until 6 pm on Saturday,and open again from 11 am until 4 pm Sunday.There will be lots of presentations and displaysfrom local businesses, providing a central spot forattendees to learn about and celebrate the out-door beauty and countless recreational opportu-nities available here in Northern Michigan.Here is the Schedule of Events for the 52nd Annual National Mushroom Festival:

Wellington Farm, USA, a 60-acre living history complex near Grayling, will open for the season on Saturday, May 19.For the first few weeks the Farm will be open only on week-ends. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. onSunday. The last guided tour will depart the Visitors Centerat 4:30 p.m. each day. Price of admission is $7.50 for adultsand $5.50 for seniors, students and active duty military per-sonnel. Wellington Farm is an excellent family outing, with 60acres of farm and about a dozen exhibit buildings to explore. Visitors ride into the complex on the farm's shuttle and arethen guided through the major buildings by a traineddocent. Wellington Farm depicts life as it was lived during the Great Depression, more specifically the year 1932. New additions to the farm's displays this season are the BroomShop, the Perry T. Lamkin Historic Display, the Loom Houseand a new jungle gym for thegoats. Wellington Farm is locatedat 6944 S. Military Road justoff I-75 and US-127 southwestof Grayling.
