The man behind the movement 
Willard Cleon Skousen (1913-2006)was a popular a teacher, lecturer andauthor in the United States or over 40years. His witty and organized methodo explaining and documenting historyhas delighted thousands o readers andlisteners or many years.
Born in Raymond,Alberta, Canada onJanuary 20, 1913, Dr.Skousen’s growing upyears were spent inCanada, Mexico, andCaliornia.At age 17 he was calledto serve a two-year,LDS mission to GreatBritain or the Churcho Jesus Christ oLatter-day Saints.He later attended college at the San BernardinoJunior College where he was elected StudentBody President.With scholarships and encouragements, he letCaliornia in 1934 to work as a government aid inWashington DC. Later Dr. Skousen applied andwas hired as an FBI agent.Skousen married his sweetheart, Jewel Pitcher oSan Bernardino, Caliornia, August 1936. Duringthe past 69 years, they have raised 8 children andare the grandparents o 50 grandchildren andover 69 great-grandchildren. He resided in SaltLake City, Utah the remainder o his lie.He graduated with a Bachelors o Law romGeorge Washington University Law Schoolin June 1940, and had already passed theWashington, D.C. bar examination. The schoolupgraded his degree to Juris Doctor in 1972 aterreviewing the suciency o his law school studies.Dr. Skousen served the FBI or 16 years (1935-1951), and worked closely with J. Edgar Hoover. In1951 he was asked to join the aculty o BrighamYoung University. Here he headed up the StudentAlumni organization. In 1956 he was asked toserve as Chie o Police o Salt Lake City. Duringhis 4 year service, he also wrote his national bestseller, “The Naked Communist.” He also was theeditor o the nations leading police magazine,“Law And Order.” In 1960 he let the police orceand began speaking tours around the country onthe political crisis during that time period. He alsoran or the governors oce in Utah, but narrowlymissed the primaries.In 1967, Dr. Skousen returned to BYU as aproessor in the Religion Department. He taughtclasses on The Book o Mormon, The OldTestament, and early LDS Church History.He continued that assignment until hisretirement in 1978.In 1972, Skousen ounded a non-prot educationaloundation, “The Freeman Institute” which soughtto provide students a place to read both sides oany political issue rom original sources.
