Skiing is among one of the top most dangerous sports.Skiers should be wary of their surrounding scenery, objects, and people. This iscritical and crucial, for if there is a person in front of a skier and that skier has not noticedthe person, a serious injury could occur to the person or / and skier. A skier should also know where they are at all times and be able to point out theirlocation on a map. This is also vital so a skier knows what trail he or she is skiing on, andcan pick out trails that are suiting for his or her level of difficulty. Most importantly, skiers should wear helmets. Helmets can and have savedthousands of lives. A skier crashing into a tree or losing control will have less or no braininjury if he or she is wearing a helmet, among other safety gear.If a skier should think that he or she needs training or tutoring, they need to find atutor, trainer, or other experienced skier to help.Skiers should not attempt a trail unless they are comfortable with the trail: moguls, steepness, obstacles, jumps, terrain, and others are some things that should justify. A helmet is extremely crucial and, as mentioned before, can save your life. A friendof mine was skiing on the side of a trail. Suddenly, a person in front of him fell over. In ahurry, he turned left, straight into the trees. Changing his mind, he tried to turn right.Uncontrollably, he crashed into a tree and fainted. Another skier reported him to aski patrol officer, and he was airlifted to Denver’s emergency room. A doctor verified he had a fractured area of bones near his right eye. His neck hadbeen shunted. Staying in the emergency room, he was given a neck aid designed to keep hisneck still while his spinal cord healed. Another case happened the next day: a friend crashed into a tree and fractured hisleg bone a bit. He was also airlifted by helicopter to Denver. The point of these real-life scenes is to emphasis that ski safety is extremely important. With that in mind, ski safely and controllably. Here is a list of safety rules you canfollow:1. Make frequent stops so to give your legs a rest. Rest until you feel that you arephysically well enough to continue.2. Whenever you feel that you cannot control your speed or direction, stopimmediately. If that is not possible, fall to the side. It is better than crashing into atree.3. Always wear safety gear and enough clothing to keep warm and safe.
