Human Rights Education Program

Education Program Vision We envision a world in which all people are equal in dignity and rights; where everyone knows and values human rights and has the skills to fulfill them for all. Education Program Mission To achieve our vision, we provide human rights education, training, advocacy, and materials to help people learn about and apply international human rights standards in their daily lives, families, workplaces, schools, and communities.

Education Program Work The Education Program develops and distributes human rights education materials. Impact: We support educators, in general, by providing free, quality resources to teach about human rights in classrooms and communities. Examples: Curricular resources, reports and publications such as The Road to Peace: A Teaching Guide on Local and Global Transitional Justice, Energy of a Nation: Immigrants in America, Discover Human Rights Toolkits, and lesson plans.

The Education Program educates and trains on human rights issues. Impact: We contribute to a growing human rights movement through awareness raising and skill building. Examples: Presentations, lecture and film series, conferences, CLE and CEU sessions, and public forums such as the Law and Policy Conference, Human Rights Day, Minnesota State Fair exhibit, One Voice Minnesota immigration trainings, Rights-Based Approach training, teacher training, and community and conference presentations.

The Education Program promotes innovative human rights education and resources.

Impact: We leverage limited resources to reach a wide variety of audiences.


Examples: Websites, newsletters, e-mail updates, event exhibits, and local, national, and Minnesota network newsletter,www.EnergyofaNation.org, www.DiscoverHumanRights.org, National Council of Social Sciences national conference, Education Minnesota state conference, One international networks such as Rights Sites News, Discover Human Rights News, One Voice Minnesota network, and the U.S. Human Rights Network.
