The cost o poor Power Quality
Electrical networks with poor Power Quality result in nancial loss, environmental impacts and/or saety concerns. There are three signicant sources o poor Power Quality causedby a variety o loads in customer installations:
•
Harmonic pollution
•
Load imbalance resulting in voltage imbalance and phase toneutral voltage
•
Reactive powerIn addition, there are costs incurred due to extra kWh losses intypical network components such as transormers, cables andmotors. These losses are cascaded back to the utility powerplants and result in increased CO

emissions. The emissions canbe signicant or marginal depending on the process and the ueltype rom which the electrical power is generated.
ABB PQF active ilters are the ultimate answer to toughPower Quality problems caused by harmonics, loadunbalance and reactive power demand.
ABB PQF active lters can be applied to small, medium or largeapplications and are suitable or both industrial and commercialinstallations. They provide harmonic mitigation, load balancingand step-less reactive power control or inductive and capacitiveloads. Selection rom the large choice o ratings rom several tenso Amps to several thousands o Amps enables the optimal solu-tion or each system to be easily dened. The desired lter ratingcan be obtained by combining dierent master and slave units.Under normal conditions, the load o the lter will be distributedevenly over all the lter units operating in parallel. ABB PQF active lters can be installed in LV networks. They canalso be employed in MV networks through the use o a suitablecoupling transormer.
ABB PQF active flters oer the ollowing system benefts:
•
Reduced production downtime and/or commercial installationdowntime.
•
Increased system eciency and reduction o CO

emissions.
•
Compliance with the strictest Power Quality regulations thanksto their unique control concept, thereby avoiding penalties and/ or reusal by utilities to connect installations to the electrical grid.
•
No detailed network analysis required, rapid and easyimplementation o the solution.
•
Not overloadable, thanks to their active concept, hence welladapted to LV installations where loads are upgraded requently.Poor Power Quality when excessive costs money. It leadsamongst others to:
•
Frequent ailures o equipment
•
Reduced lietime o equipment
•
Production losses
•
Reduced saety levels o installations
•
Increased carbon ootprint
•
Non-compliance with utility regulations
