The Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP), a research program o the CGIAR, represents orthe rst time ever a single strategic and work plan or global rice research and how it can con-tribute more eectively to solving development challenges. GRiSP was launched in November2010.GRiSP brings together hundreds o scientists to embark on the most comprehensive at-tempt ever to deploy rice’s genetic diversity. Cutting-edge research aimed at discovering newrice genes and deciphering their unctions is eeding into accelerated eorts to break the yieldbarrier in rice and to breed new generations o “climate-ready” rice with fooding toleranceand other traits that are essential or adapting production in the ace o climate change. The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is leading GRiSP and activities in Asia, withthe Arica Rice Center (AricaRice) leading work in Arica and the International Center orTropical Agriculture (CIAT) leading work in Latin America and the Caribbean. Other interna-tional research organizations such as the Centre de Coopération Internationale en RechercheAgronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD), L’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement(IRD), and the Japan International Research Center or Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) are play-ing strategic roles in GRiSP and many more partnerships are being ostered. The responsibility or this publication rests solely with the Global Rice Science Partnership.
