The inn at Pocono Manor

The inn at Pocono Manor

If youre looking to escape in the mountains without springing for a plane ticket, the idyllic Inn at Pocono Manor offers yearround outdoor activities just two hours north of the city in the picturesque Pocono Mountains. Along with shooting, hiking, fishing, golf and horseback riding, the Inn at Pocono Manor offers a full service spa for visitors who would prefer to spend their vacation being pampered with hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, tanning, waxing and a variety of massage services offered by a certified, professionally trained staff using the most luxurious spa products available including the Inns signature line. Visitors have been seeking refuge from the stresses of the city at the Inn at Pocono Manor for over 110 years and this rich history is on display throughout the Inn with antiques dotting the rooms and common areas. Though there is no shortage of rustic charms, the Inn recently underwent a $5 million renovation ensuring all the most modern comforts and amenities. I love the sense of history, recalling an earlier era

when guests arrived for the summer, said Ken Ellens of the Inn at Pocono Manor. What I love about The Inn is the escape one feels when driving up the mountain to the main lodge, which is an historic building wonderfully preserved. The Inn at Pocono Manor is one of Pennsylvanias historic springs resorts and the grounds include picturesque natural waterfalls, crystal clear springs, 3,000 acres of trails and dramatic views of the Delaware Water Gap. One can still visit an original spring house on the property, Mr. Ellens said. Though the Inn is a perfect destination for families with a variety of kid-friendly activities, it is also an ideal location for a romantic retreat or wedding in one of the lush ballrooms with mountain views that can accommodate groups of 25 to 300 people. poconomanor.com

Boardwalk Plaza
There arent very many options for luxurious beachside escapes that havent already been taken over by swarms of sun worshipping tourists. However, Delaware remains a wellkept secret despite its proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in

the Northeast. For travelers looking to explore Americas smallest state, we recommend the Boardwalk Plaza, an oceanfront AAA Four Diamond Award winning establishment that has been a choice spot for those in the know for 20 consecutive years. This year-round haven offers 84 individual rooms outfitted with a mix of Victorian-style furnishings and all high tech conveniences like free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Foodies will also relish the Boardwalk Plazas gourmet restaurant, Victorias, where they can enjoy top quality cuisine paired with beautiful Atlantic seascapes from every table and on the outdoor boardwalk patio in the warmer months. For cocktails and lighter fare, guests also have the option of our cozy Plaza Pub, Jennifer Zerby director of marketing at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel said. Entertainment is provided by our house pianist, Jeff Irwin, who entertains guests with his great American songbook style and who can accommodate almost any musical request. In the summer months, visitors can enjoy a heated soaking pool, rooftop hot tub and supervised childrens activity hours for parents who want to sneak away from the kids for some alone time. Nearby, there are several shopping areas and

If youve never been to Newport before, tours of Ocean Drive, Downtown and the renowned Bellevue Avenue offer great insights into the history of the city and impressive views of the famous preserved mansions. Another great option is a stroll along the 3.5 mile Cliff Walk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Newports multiple beaches. One of the yachting capitals of the world, Narragansett Bay is perpetually busy with sailboat races and provides a great show to tourists dining on fresh seafood at many of the fine restaurants. Boasting other attraction such as the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Americas Cup Charter tours, and nearby polo playing fields in Portsmouth, Newport is an undoubtedly friendly and fun location for a summer weekend.

Montreal

The Glimmerglass Festival is a one-of-akind opera event and a fantastic summer destination for music lovers. The second largest city in Canada, Montreal is a great destination for a weekend away with distinct European flair. Between historical attractions like the Notre-Dame Basilica and an extensive array of high-end shopping options in Montreals underground city, there are plenty of ways to pass time along the St. Lawrence River. Located just south of the equally lovely Quebec City, there are many fine cuisine options available to visitors looking for a Parisian dining experience. There are also plenty of choices for nightlife in the inner city, but a popular option for visitors is to try their luck at the Casino de Montreal, easily accessible across from the Parc Jean-Drapeau. In short, vacationers

looking for a taste of a Parisian New York without flying across the pond will absolutely enjoy a weekend in this international city.

Mount desert island

Off the coast of southern Maine, Mount Desert Island and its popular tourist town, Bar Harbor, offer a serene escape from busy city life. Home to Acadia National Park, the island provides visitors with numerous options for recreational activities, including hiking, sailing, biking, and kayaking. Lodging options range from small Bed & Breakfasts to historic inns and even luxury mountaintop cottages. Between the months of May and October, Bar Harbor boasts popular whale watching adventures and other exciting options for adults and children alike.
