The Honorable Brady Eutaw Mendheim
Circuit Judge
P.O. Drawer 6406
Dothan, AL 36302
Dear Judge Mendheim:
I have received a copy of a recent court order which states, "apparently the state school
superintendent would approve the student's participation," related to a graduation
ceremony to be held at Headland High School. It is also my understanding that this
assumption was made based on a television interview conducted at the close of the
Dothan Rotary Club Meeting on Monday, May 21, 2012.
I have reviewed the footage from that interview and want to be clear that I in no way
stated or insinuated that I was opposed to a local school board policy regarding meeting
the graduation requirements currently in place in Henry County. In fact, I
never
mentioned Henry County, Headland High School, or any school board policy in any of my
comments.
I want to be clear that as State Superintendent of EthiGation, I support local school
board authority in these matters and would never assume-authority to overrule such a
policy due to the precedent it would set for future policy development.

Sincerely,
Mary Scott Hunter, J.D
