GOLDMINESANDMINING,wasoriginallyissuedin1934inresponsetotheheavydemandthatwasbeingexpressedduringtheearly1930'sforauthoritativeinformationonArizona'sgolddeposits.Afterseveralreprintings,thebulletinwasallowedtogooutofprintduringtheearlyyearsofWorldWarIIand,inviewoftherestrictionsplacedongoldminingduringthewar,itwasnotconsiderednecessarytoreprintthebulletinatthattime.Circumstancesnowhavechanged,however,andinterestingold
is
againstrongandinquiriesarebeingreceivedalmostdailyforinformationongolddeposits.WiththisinmindandconsideringthatthedataonthegeologicsettingandthemineralogicalcharacteristicsofthedepositsdescribedinBulletinNo.137are
as
validtoday
as
theywerein1934,itwasdecidedtoreprintPartsIand
II
oftheBulletinwithoutchange.MuchofPartIII,whichdealswiththelawsandregulationsgoverningmining,however,havebeendeleted,inasmuch
as
manyofthelawshavebeenrevisedsince1934.
For
informationonthisaspectofmining,thereader
is
