Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team Meeting (PPITT)May 17, 2012Members Present
: See attached roster.Marsha Unruh called meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. Presenters for today’s meetingare as follows: Tom Martinez Jr., Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR); Judi Stein Stutman, College Living Experiences; and Felicia Barnhardt, TherapeuticRecreation.New sign-in sheet and facilitator/note taker sign-up sheets were passed around.Marsha read the mission statement for the PPITT. Everyone introduced themselvesby name and agency.Presentations:1.Tom Martinez Jr., Business Outreach Specialist (BOS) for DVR, presented aPowerPoint slideshow on DVR, who they are and what they do. DVR is part of the State of Colorado Department of Human Services. For more informationor additional training, please contact Larry Gehring, BOS, at (303)866-4150 or(866)870-4594. Let Tom know if you want to be on email list for jobopenings and please share job openings with DVR (as part of the EmploymentAlliance of Southern Colorado which was merged with the PPITT).2. Judi Stein Stutman from College Living Experiences presented on theirDenver-based services which address the question, “How do you do life afterhigh school?” They teach activities of daily living (ADLs) 1:1 with residents intheir apartments. They are a DVR vendor and help college students withdisabilities with skills such as resume writing and job readiness skills.3.Felicia Barnhardt, Therapeutic Recreation (Colorado Springs Parks & Rec)discussed 5 core areas for summer camps: arts & culture, social enrichment,outdoor adventure, sports/fitness/aquatics, and community integration andleisure. Two camps still have openings – Teens (ages 13-18) and DiscoveryCamp (ages 6-12). The Friends of Therapeutic Rec, Community Partners,continues to raise funds for their programs. A Paralympic sports club is alsoavailable.

:Cindy Carr, Self-Advocates As Leaders (SAAL) announced their bake sale thisSaturday.Randi VanNess announced they were partnering with Penrose/St. Francis to create aguide for healthcare workers working with adults and children with special needs

She asked service providers to email her with info/resourcesin community for their guide:rvanness@wrcenters.com.Laura Marshall from UCCS announced the Transition Conference in Denver onOctober 25-26 (preconference on October 24). Their inaugural fund raising event, DanceFitColorado 2012, will be held June 9 at Pine Creek High School to benefit SAGEColorado, SAAL of Colorado Springs, and Pine Creek HS basketball programs. Tom Martinez Jr. reminded everyone about DVR’s open house on Friday from 1-5p.m. and the Yes, we can! Expo on June 1 for information/resources for individualswho are deaf or hard of hearing.Marsha Unruh from The Resource Exchange (TRE) provided information sheets onMedicaid buy-in programs. The Compass newsletter was circulated and distributed among PPITTmembers/agencies.October 3

Interagency Fair
: Joan Wermers presented information on our Interagency Fair on April 19
th
. AMarketing Report and Summary report were distributed. Here are a few stats: 456people signed in (~40 did not sign in); 92 vendors; 90 surveys completed. We’llpick up discussions in August. Sonya Teigen is going to take over directory for nextyear as Joan is really retiring this year
Ideas were tossed around regardingchanges for next year, including defining committees in August and perhapsdesignating a separate meeting time for these committees. Further discussionstabled until August.
