What is an Oxygen Concentrator? A medical device that produces oxygen on demand. This minimizes the users dependency on costly and cumbersome liquid or cylinder oxygen systems. How does it work? Air is a mixture of gases, 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, 9% argon, and 1% other gases. Air is supplied to the oxygen concentrator by an internal compressor. A regenerative adsorbent material removes the nitrogen from the air and delivers up to 95.5% pure oxygen to an internal mixing tank. The oxygen is withdrawn from this reservoir for use by the patient at the prescribed liter flow.

PSA oxygen process uses adsorbents (a synthetic zeolite called molecular sieve), which attract (adsorb) nitrogen from air at high pressure and release it at low pressure.

70% of patients on continuous oxygen therapy survived for the 5 years during the complete study period. Only 28% of patients receiving no oxygen survived during the 5-year period. Conclusion: The higher the number of hours per day of treatment, the longer the survival period.
