Alberta Alliance Principles
1. We believe in the inherent value and dignity of each individual citizen; that all citizens are equalbefore the law and entitled to fundamental justice; and that all citizens have certain fundamentaland immutable rights and freedoms, including: the right to life, safety, liberty, and privacy; thefreedoms of speech and expression and the freedom to advocate, without fear of intimidation orsuppression, public policies which reflect their values; freedom of religious belief and practice;freedom of peaceful assembly and choice of association; freedom of mobility; and the freedom toown, enjoy, and exchange private property in a free market.2. We believe in democratic processes including: free and fair elections, set election dates, free votesin the Legislature and the power of citizens to recall elected representatives and initiatereferendums.3.
 
We believe that Albertans have a personal and social responsibility to care and provide for the basicneeds of those who are genuinely unable to care and provide for themselves; and that thisresponsibility begins with the family and extends to volunteer private organizations and to all levelsof government.4.
 
We believe that functions of government should be delegated to the level of government closest tothe people and best able to fulfill the function; and that the division of powers among the levels of government must be respected.5.
 
We believe that the government, elected officials and civil servants are to serve the people; and thatall Citizens are entitled to benefit without prejudice from the services offered by government.6.
 
We believe that the family is the essential building block of a healthy society and the primarymeans by which citizens pass on their values and beliefs; therefore, the family must be protectedfrom unnecessary intrusions by government.7.
 
We believe that elected representatives are to serve honestly, ethically, and with concern for all;that their duty to their electors supersedes their obligations to any political party; and thatgovernment must be open and accountable to the people.8.
 
We believe that government must be fiscally prudent: namely balancing budgets, limiting taxation,and minimizing the size and growth of the public sector and that they should treat public moneys asfunds held in trust.9.
 
We believe that the interests of Alberta are best served by a strong, unified, equal and democraticCanada.10.
 
We believe that economic freedom, entrepreneurial spirit and the right to private property areessential to economic prosperity and political freedom.11.
 
We believe in the preservation of Alberta’s heritage.12.
 
We believe in being environmentally responsible through conservation and renewal of theenvironment for present and future generations.13.
 
We believe in freedom of the press and other media.14.
 
We believe in the principle of universal public access to health care.15.
 
We believe in the principle of universal public access to education.
