in carrying on trade with communist nations.
have been severely critic) certain farm leadezs for
having taken a position against ¢ ‘of wheat to Russia and
other conmmmist nations, There certafaly can be no-doubt but that
any commodities traded to ¢o ndktons are being shipped to
er
the Viet Cong as you stated (e) is unthinkable to me that we
sheaueé
should be aiding our enemy when out young men ara risking
their lives to contain shp opaa-6£ commmisn.
I for one, am (bt wifing to Setray our young men in this
manner, but fully real y seem to be willing to place the dole
lar sign above the lives-of our fighting men. I prefer to do as
you states-to sell less wheat, in fact I would rather destroy it
then know trading it to the commmists may have resulted in the
loss of one American life.
On your question es to whether it would be helpful to write
other Members of Congress, this 1s difficult to say, but 1£ you
with to do so, I enclose a list of the members of the House For~
eign Affairs Committee, and also the names of the Kansas Congres=
sional Delegation. Mail to U.S. Representatives will reach them
if addressed to the House §ffice Building, Washington, D. C., and
that going to Senators in fare of the Senate Office Building, Wash-
ington, D. C. It would be my suggestion that you request a reply
from those you write, and indicate that you do not wish your letter
to be referred to me inasmuch as you have already written me dire
ectly.
Do continue to give me the benefit of your views on importi
issues, and when I may be of assistance, do not hesitate to let me
know,
Sincerely yours,

Deer Sir:
For the last three or four months the nevs has been filled with articles
about what we are doing to help Russia and her satellite nations. I read
for example in a news release that Britain and the United States had agreed
to sell nuclear reactors to communist countries which wuld permit inspect-
ion to insure that the reactors weren't diverted to making bombs. Now this
is sheer nonsense for if they did decide to make bombs we wouldn't do @
thing about it wut carry on an exchange of words, as happened in the Cuban
affair, ‘here have articles about building a miltimillion dollar oil re-
finery for Rumania. We are financing this and other communist projects
while they are shipping arms to the Viet Cong. Are we serious about
winning this war? If we aren't lets bring the boys hone.
I don't know if writing to the Senators end Congressmen will do any good,
but I feel I must do something. I am not writing ¢his to you for any other
reason than to ask for information. I feel we couldn't have a better
representative in Washington than you. a ana fe coun sages
any senators or congressue: would help in
Say oT WOTTETTE Eo Sie a ot
“BeTling anything to any country that is trading with the communist. We
| are farmers but 1 would rather do with less than sell one tushel of wheat
to & country that is helping the communist in any way.
I think the American people will have to make up their minds ae to whether
they want a decent vorld, or they just as’well give in and join the ¢immunists.
Thank you for any help you can give ue.

Dear Mrs. Johnson:
Thank you for your lett losures concerning
activities to alert the American peofle against the policies
of the Johnaon Administrat! to trade with communist
nations,
I am particu! P receive your letter and
learn of your acti '» for I have been very critical of this
trade, and have fly criticized because of my position
against the sale of| o Russia and other communist nations.
I am enclosing some 1. giving you some indication as to my
position and efforts on this issue,
It te inconceivable to me that we should support our
deadly enemies by trading them food and other strategic articles
while our young men are bleeding and dying to contain them. As
@ disabled veteran of World War IL, I am convinced such activity
is nothing short of treasonous and cold betrayal of our fighting
men.
1 enthusiastically support your activities, and commend
you for your patriotic work.
Sincerely yours,
BOB DOLE, H.C,
