Pennsylvania Avenue Capital Pride Festival

Deborah Cox Headlines Sunday’s Street Party

Washington, DC—The 37th Annual Capital Pride Festival takes place Sunday, June 10, 2012, 11 am to 6 pm, on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th & 3rd Streets, NW, Washington, DC. The festival, which draws more than 200,000 people, is free and open to the public.

The festival is full of entertainment, music, food, drink, education, and celebration. In addition to two beverage gardens, a dunk tank, and 300+ vendors, the festival features three stages providing entertainment all day. The Main Stage, sponsored by Hot 99.5 FM, will highlight several local and national recording artists, including Consuelo Costin, Xavier Toscano, the DC Cowboys in their farewell performance, Pepper Mashay, and headliner Deborah Cox.

Deborah Cox is a multi-platinum selling recording artist and star on Broadway, where she returns this year to portray Josephine Baker in Josephine. Her double platinum hit “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” held the record for being the longest running #1 R&B Single for 14 consecutive weeks and earned her a Lady of Soul and a Soul Train Award.

Capital Pride has added some new areas to this year’s event:

  • Taste@Pride features local chef tastings and a Barefoot Wine sangria bar for just $20. Participating restaurants include Boqueria, Dirty Martini, Luke’s Lobster, Georgetown Cupcakes, and 360.
  • The Demonstration Tent will highlight the talents of our local community in dancesport, roller derby, square dancing, fitness, and line dancing.
  • The Family Area will have large inflatables, crafts and games, and resources for LGBT families.

The festival is family friendly; however, due to large crowds and very hot asphalt, we ask that people not bring pets.

Deborah Cox will be available for interviews Sunday, 5 to 6 pm. To arrange an interview, please contact Missy Toms at 202.674.7717. More information: www.capitalpride.org.

Capital Pride is organized by Capital Pride Alliance, Inc., a non-profit entity incorporated in the District of Columbia with the sole purpose of supporting, planning, and implementing annual Capital Pride events and related activities throughout the year. Capital Pride’s 37th Anniversary Celebration will feature activities, events, and educational forums, May 30 to June 10, 2012.
