Description

Remembering Trauma, by Richard J. McNally (published by Harvard University Press) Out Of The Dark:
One Woman’s Harrowing Journey to Discover her Past, by Linda Caine and Robin Royston (published by Bantam and later a Corgi paperback)
This book review by Carol Tavris, herself a distinguished social psychologist, write and lecturer first appeared in The Times Literary Supplement on 15th August 2003 under the title Just Deal With It. It addresses one of the most serious issues at the core of false allegations: namely untrue ‘recovered memories’ of child sexual abuse ‘disclosed’ in psychotherapy.
The review concludes with the following remark …. “if there is to be a happy ending to the epidemic of psychological ignorance and psychotherapeutic malpractice in the domains of memory and trauma, it is McNally’s book that the public should read, and that every therapist must.”
