Track 9, Progress Test 2, Listening: Part 1
[Man in late 20s or early 30s]
I often feel stressed. I guess it’s quite normal for this day and age. It’s taken me years to find aremedy, but now I take it all out on the squash court – there’s nothing better than running aroundtrying to beat your opponent.
Hi Barbara! Oh! You look awful!
Thanks. I don’t feel so good.
What is it?
Something I ate I guess.
What you need is some milk. That always helps things settle down.
[Two young boys and their mother]
Mum! Toby’s got my kite.
Well go and get it off him.
He won’t give it back to me.
Toby! Give Jake the kite.
Don’t “Oh, mum!” me. Give it back to him right now.
It’s just not fair.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. There’s this famous actress getting an award and she’s almost in tears. When she’s asked to say a few words she just blubbers something that’s almost incoherent! I felt sosorry for her.
We struggled from the outset really. Although we had a great idea we found it very difficult to get thefinancial backing. In the end we went to an investment broker who claimed he could get us the moneythat was necessary. Within six weeks he’d secured over a million pounds for us – it was incredible. Iguess what originally let us down was the way in which we talked about the product.
