Program starts fall ‘12
What it is:
Student Impact is anafter-school program designed tomeet the needs of Weinland Park’srising 5th-, 6th- and 7th-graders(students who will be in 6th-, 7th-and 8th grades this fall). The goal isstraightforward: Student Impactaims to partner with neighborhoodfamilies and students to provide thekind of academic, emotional andpersonal support—in a structured after-school setting—that enables everyparticipating student to successfullytransition to, and complete, sixth gradeand, eventually, middle school. Theprogram will do so by offering tutoring,homework help and by teaching thestudying, life and organizational skillsneeded for every middle-school student tobe successful.

H.I.T.S(High ImpacT Sports)
Kicks off fall ‘12
What it is:
H.I.T.S is a youth-sports program designed to provideathletic opportunities for WeinlandPark children and youth, whilesimultaneously teaching teamwork,camaraderie and conflict resolution.The program kicks off in Septemberwith co-ed flag football for ages 5 to14, then continues into winter, witha basketball league at Urban Impact’s new,full-court gym (the Austin Rec Center). Inaddition, the ARC will begin hosting open-gym nights this summer for kids, teens andadults in the neighborhood and willcontinue doing so year-round. On thehorizon for 2013: a foray into tennis andcontinued partnership with our friends at Vineyard Columbus, Resolute Lacrosse andLacrosse the Nations.
