 DR. CARL WERNICKE (1848-1904)
Wernickewas born inTarnovitz, Poland. Interested in psychiatry, traditionally hestudied anatomy initially andneuropathology later. He published a small volume onaphasia which vaulted him intointernational fame. In it was precisepathoanatomicanalysis paralleling the clinical picture.He is best known for his work on sensory aphasia and poliomyelitishemorrhagiasuperior.
 
 DR. SERGEI KORSAKOV (1853-1900)
Korsakov was born in Russia..Although he studied alcoholic polyneuritiswith mentalsymptoms, his "Korsakov’s psychosis" was the term usedonly when the mental disorder was accompanied by neuritissymptoms. Known as ahumanitarian, he improvedconditions in mentalinstitutions. He was the firstgreat psychiatrist in Russia. Heis considered a "moral genius.”
