Chapter 5 summary

Chapter five begins right after Katniss and Peeta reach the Capitol. Both of them are being taken care of before the games begin. Katniss has her whole body washed and cleaned of dirt and hair. She finds the capital accent to be strange, and how people dress and fix their hair is also odd. After every problem has been taken care of, Katniss is brought before a stylist whose name is Cinna. Katniss soon realizes hes quite different from the other capitol inhabitants, and apparently he chose to be District 12s stylist. Peetas stylist was Portia and both Cinna and Portia came out with a unique idea to make District 12, specifically Katniss and Peeta, unforgettable at the opening ceremonies. Each district represented something based on its industry. District 12 represented coal miners because their main industry was mining coal. Cinna and Portia wanted to use a black costume, on both Peeta and katniss, representing coal and to be covered in harmless fire representing the action of what miners do, burning coil. At the opening ceremony Katniss and Peeta were on fire, holding one others hand as Cinna told them to. The public was fascinated by District 12 tribute and the cameramen featured them most of the time while trying to show brief moments of the other districts tributes. The chapter ends when the ceremony is over, and the president of Panem appears and the anthem is being played.
