the fence. We were all on the road and the (deputies) came, they thought we were somebody else, Gobin told WCTI-12. They said they were on a drug sting and they werent even looking for us. As dangerous as a potential jump would have been, WCTI-12 Vice President and General Manager Lyle Schulze said climbing the tower is an extremely dangerous venture. Television transmitting towers, such as WCTI-TVs tower in Trenton, are highly dangerous structures with many potentially deadly consequences to anyone attempting to climb it that does not have tower-rigging certification, Schulze stated in a press release. Also, our transmitters for both WCTI-TV and FOX Eastern Carolina are operating at full capacity along with several radio stations that have antennas mounted at various levels. The amount of RF (which is used to create a television signal) moving through our transmission lines can injure or kill someone who is not properly licensed or trained to be on that tower. We are grateful to Sheriff Heath for his quick actions. The four men were each released on $500 unsecured bonds.

TRENTON Four men were arrested this week after Jones County authorities found them with BASE jumping equipment near WCTI-12 and FOX Eastern Carolinas TV broadcast tower north of Trenton. The 2,000foot tower, whose signal reaches from Raleigh to Wilmington, is about four miles off U.S. 70 on N.C. 41. Jeffrey Plisko, 30, of Newport; Zachary Bunzey, 22, of Raleigh; Cristopher Latham, 29, of Morehead City; and Garrett Gobin, 23, of Havelock were charged with trespassing. Capt. Justin Eimer, a spokesperson for the Jones County Sheriff s Office, said Latham was also charged for having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, along with charges for marijuana and paraphernalia possession. Eimer said the office received a call from an off-duty officer Wednesday night and the authorities were on the scene at 10 p.m. Gobin spoke to WCTI12 Thursday and disputed the sheriff offices assertion that all four men were planning to jump from the tower. Only one guy had his rig on, Gobin told WCTI.
