The promotion of the competition in the
Electricity Industry is one of the key objectives of
the Electricity Act, 2003.
generation, transmission, distribution, trading
and use of electricity and generally for taking
measures conducive to development of
electricity industry, promoting competition
therein, protecting interest of consumers etc.
The tariff policy has been evolved in consultation with the State
Governments and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and keeping
in view the advice of the Central Electricity Regulatory
