Anger blows out the lamp of the mind

Distribution, the programme wasconducted at IIPA by its Centre for Consumer Studies from April 23-27. Apart from acquainting the participantswith the need and importance of consumer helplines and the role of the coordinators and advisors of theSCHs, the programme was designedto: (i) enhance their knowledgeand skill in the area of consumer protection and consumer welfare; (ii)build their capacity to manage SCHsand redress consumer grievances;(iii) enhance their knowledge and skillto provide consumers with informationrelated to products and services; and(iv) develop communication skills. Thefaculty comprised guest speakers andin-house faculty. Dr. Mamta Pathaniaand Shri S.K. Virmani coordinated it.
Know India Programme
Sponsored by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), theprogramme, fifth in the series, wasorganised at IIPA on April 25-26.Shri Vinay Sahni, Joint Secretary,MOIA, inaugurated the programmehighlighting the background of KIPsince its inception five years ago.Dr. Rakesh Hooja, Director of IIPA,delivered a lecture on “Various Aspects of Changing India Since1947”. The programme was wellapplauded by both the participantsand the sponsoring Ministryas a foundation for an updatedknowledge on contemporary Indiaincluding its governance paradigm,trends in cinema, climate changeand e-governance. Thirty-sevenparticipants from 11 countries of Indiandiaspora attended the programme.Dr. Charru Malhotra and Prof. VinodK. Sharma coordinated it.
Maldivian Delegation Visits IIPA
A four-member delegation headedby Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan,Chairman of Civil Service Commissionvisited the Institute on April 10. Duringtheir interactive session with thefaculty members of IIPA, they evinceddesire to have IIPA’s advice andsupport for the civil service traininginstitute in their country. Prof. SushmaYadav coordinated the visit.
Dr. Rakesh Hooja, Director of IIPA, was requested by Prof. D.P. Agrawal, Chairman of UPSC, towrite a status paper on Recruitment,covering various terms of referenceof the UPSC Expert Committee, toreview the Scheme of Civil Services(Main) Examination. The ExpertCommittee is headed by Prof. ArunS. Nigavekar, former Chairperson of UGC. Dr. Hooja made a presentationof his draft status/opinion paper on Recruitment before the ExpertCommittee and various heads of National Government TrainingInstitutes at a Consultation Workshopin the UPSC on April 10.The Ministry of Statistics andProgramme Implementation hasmade Dr. Hooja a member of the Advisory Committee to reviewand streamline the conduct of theadvanced management programmesfor HAG/SAG and NFSG level IndianStatistical Service officers.Fourteen books authored/co-authored/edited/co-edited over thelast five years by Dr. Hooja wereincluded in a display of over 100books by civil servants that was putup at the National Civil Services Dayevent in New Delhi by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances andPensions on April 21.The Ministry of Personnel,Public Grievances and Pensionshas decided to continue Dr. Hoojaas a member of Editorial Board of its journal

Prof. P.K. Chaubey, Professor of Economics, delivered a lecture on“Demystification of Poverty Line inIndia” in a joint seminar organised bythe Departments of Economics andManagement, Central University of Rajasthan on April 13.
Shri Saket Bihari, AssistantProfessor of Development Studies,gave the valedictory address ina national seminar on “Advancesin Management, Reflection of Indian Stock Market and IndustrialDevelopment and Environment”,organised by the Department of Commerce at Thakur Ranmat SinghCollege, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.
S.L. Goel delivers ConvocationAddress
Prof. S.L. Goel, HonoraryTreasurer of IIPA, deliveredconvocation address at the Govt.College, Sector 46, Chandigarh on April 14. Prof. Goel stressed upon theneed of realising one’s aptitude andmaking informed decisions regardingfuture. He observed that students canachieve goals with sincere hard workand commitment.
