Alcatel-LucentMobile Backhaul Solution
Enabling the ProftableEvolution to All-IP

Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Backhaul Solution2

The mobile market is changing, andto remain competitive, mobile serviceproviders and backhaul transportproviders must deliver new servicesat lower cost. Mobile user demandcontinues to move beyond basic dataservices like instant messaging and emailto more delay sensitive applicationslike streaming media and real-timemultimedia. In response, broadbandwireless technologies including high-speed packet access (HSPA) and evolutiondata optimized (EV-DO) are evolving toenable even higher transmission speedsand packet interaces. Mobile transportnetworks must evolve to meet these newbandwidth demands and support 3G and4G (LTE) mobile services proftably.

As more subscribers begin to adopt advanced, bandwidthintensive mobile data services, existing backhaul networksbased on leased lines are strained to cost-eectivelydeliver increased capacity. As a result, service providersare challenged to evolve mobile transport networks toaccommodate new packet-based services while simultan-eously supporting traditional services. As this evolution to packet occurs, service providers mustmeet or exceed the quality o experience that subscribersexpect rom voice, video, and data services. To do so, theymust leverage existing network inrastructures and simul-taneously transorm their mobile transport networks tosupport packet-based trac.To meet business objectives and user demands, mobiletransport networks must:
