In response to nine separate requests for information on human rights abuses in Argentina during the military dictatorship in that country (1976 - 1983), the Department of State Reviewed files from the 1975 through 1984 period and identified 4,677 documents for release in full or in part, redactions were made for reasons of personal privacy, national security and foreign relations, including protection of confidential sources.

Giorgi
into
the
Embassy
to
inform
him
confidentially
that
his
son,
Alfredo,
had
beenseen
at
a
clandestine
detention
facility
in
Buenos
Aires
in
mid-
December.
Mr.
Giorgi
stated
that
he
had
received
this
same
information
from
the
wife
of
Mignone's
source.
This
person
had
been
kidnapped,
interrogated
and
released
in
early
December,
1978
(See
Harris-Mignone
memcon
of
12/26/78).
According
to
Mr.
Giorgi,
the
source
had
been
a
friend
of
his
son
in
hrgh
school
and
later
went
on
to
study
medicine.
His
son,
Alfredo,
pursued
a
rareer
in
chemistry
at
the
Faculty
of
the
Exact
Sciences.
The
two
hadremained
casual
acquaintances
over
the
years.
Source

his
wife
that
he
had
an
opportunity
to
talk
with
Alfredo
Giorgi
briefly
in
the
showers
at
the
detention
