The RSA Social Brain Centre
The RSA Social Brain Centre, which will belaunched ormally later this year, seeks to demon-strate why the emerging scientic account o humannature has practical relevance or our attemptsto change our values, attitudes and behaviours. We endeavour to move beyond the ‘rational actormodel’ that has dominated social and economicthought or decades. The early 21st century accountsuggests we are constituted by evolutionary biology, embedded in complex social networks, largelyhabitual creatures, highly sensitive to social andcultural norms and ultimately more rationalisingthan rational. This emerging conception o human nature isradically diferent rom the prevailing implicit view, but in public and private lie many continue toact as i we had not learned anything useul aboutour brains, behaviour and biases in recent years. We thereore need to make prevailing theories o human nature more accurate through research, explicit through public dissemination and empow-ering through practical engagement. Through thisongoing process o thought and action, the SocialBrain Centre seeks to support personal develop-ment and wellbeing, inorm government policy, and improve social, nancial, environmental andeducational practice. For urther inormation about this report orthe RSA Social Brain Centre please contactJonathan.Rowson@rsa.org.uk
